Popular Science posted a video on Facebook this morning, about Uber's self-driving cars. Starting today, if you live in Pittsburgh and use Uber, you might get driven to work by a robot.

I've seen these cars toodling around East Liberty a couple of times recently without knowing what they were. Kinda cool. And I saw another this morning right after reading the article.

The idea of a self driving car freaks me out. Not enough control. I have learned in recent years that I do like control. The things we learn about ourselves even after all these years.

I've learned to be comfortable having no control in cars, since I'm always the passenger, never the driver. I find it difficult to relinquish control in enough other situations to understand your dislike of the idea though.

*shivers*

I'm not ready yet to see driverless cars!

So far they still all have a person sitting in the driver's seat, ready to assume control if necessary. That will definitely be a sight that takes some getting used to, when they start showing up with no drivers at all!

This is the first time that I've really felt like I was living in the future I heard so much about when I was a kid. And yes, I too find it creepy.

I had to stop myself from writing 'the future is now!' when I was writing this post. The story does have a very strong 'this is what the future will look like' vibe to it.

Hope they are well-trained to look out for pedestrians!
