I should really go to bed. Tomorrow (well, later today) I must be productive. Much reading to be done. Then I'm going to the gym to test run a potential gym buddy. Somewhere along the line I need to find some cat food that is beef-based. The kids are supremely uninterested in the chicken and tuna stuff they've got now and I know they love tuna, so I'm guessing it's the chicken they don't like. Which is unfortunate, since the new stuff I picked up over the weekend is chicken. And after all that, I need to acquire some boxes. I'm moving in less than a week; it might be time to start packing.

I'm still waiting on confirmation of a few not-so-minor details like where I'm going to stay, but it looks like I'll be heading back to Pgh in about two and a half weeks. I'll tell my boss that my last day at the preschool will be Friday, May 12. I can get a pretty cheap flight out of Boston on the 14, so [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl and I will drive down on Saturday, spend the day doing Bostony things and then she'll take me to the airport on Sunday and I'll be on my way.

Much as I'm looking forward to going home, it will be hard to say goodbye to my sister. She has been amazingly supportive in any number of ways this past year and I think I would probably have gone insane without her.

Okay, now I'm going to go off and write *gasp* hobbit-fic. I really have to get to get Luster finished before I lose all interest in it (I've been a bad fic!mom and have pretty much abandoned my poor little baby fic). Finding any level of concentration is going to be difficult because they started a way cool 'sex, drugs and rock & roll' challenge at [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic and I want to go read everything, Right Now. But Pippin has been lingering in the hurt part of h/c for months now and really, we need to get that lad some comfort. *pets Pippin and promises to make him all better*

Edit: Poor Pippin is still sadly lingering (I am working on him though, promise), but the travel plans have been cemented! I made my purchase and I'm all set to go. Yay! Okay, now that old 'fear of flying' thing kicks in; my chest already feels tight. Yippee.

We had an interesting adventure on Saturday night. My sister, P, and I had a hotel room and once we got settled in, we decided to walk to the Turkey Hill about a mile away, so that P could buy a powerball ticket. This seemed like an excellent plan until we were about half way there. It turns out we were walking along the highway, and there is no berm along the side of the road, so we were really right up against the road. Then it started to rain. Not just rain, but pour. And it was dark and cold, all of a sudden. We made it to the Turkey Hill, somehow. And then we decided to walk to our Mom's house which was closer and along a road that had sidewalks. We arrived there and begged, rather pathetically, for a ride back to the hotel. Both P and I were able to laugh about the experience and admitted that it was maybe not the smartest thing we could have done.

Memorial Day Picnic )

Today we are making the last, and longest, leg of the trip. We are driving up to New Hampshire, which should be about a twelve hour drive. It's going to be a long day, but once we get there, there won't be any more driving for a while.

Howdy all!

I've made it as far as Wilkes-Barre. This feels like something of an accomplishment. After saying goodbye to everyone at work yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] eve11 picked me up, we loaded up the car (with one or two little interruptions) and headed out, arriving at her family homestead around 7ish. Her sister was already out grilling so we had some very yummy cheeseburgers and salad, which we ate while watching Team America: World Police. Such a funny movie!

This morning we got up bright and early and got back on the road, arriving in W-B only a little past our 10am target. After transfering all my belongings from the back of Eve's car to the back of my sister's car (and bits and pieces stuffed into her husband's car as well), Eve headed back. My mom, younger brother and I then went to an Irish Festival about forty-five minutes from my mom's.

The festival was fun, if a bit on the cold and rainy side. We saw several good bands, including The Charlie Zham Trio and Blackwater. We froze because the weather forcast was mid-seventies and showers. What we got was maybe mid-fifties and a steady downpour, but it was worth it.

I lucked out and got a hotel room for the night, so I won't have to sleep on the roll-away bed in the dining room. This is a good thing!

The roommate and I were up until about one last night sorting through stuff and putting trash out. K. did a lot more sorting and I did a lot more trashing, lol.

It's been a not entirely unproductive morning. Not only did I read all the wonderful entries for the [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_ficathon moving challenge (which really has got more response than that poor little community has seen in a long time, lol), I read [livejournal.com profile] shirebound's most recent 'Quarantined' story, which is wonderful!

I also called the water, electric, broadband internet and phone companies and scheduled transfer or termination of services. The landlord had told me I needed to request a final reading for the water bill. Turns out I don't need to do that, just send them a letter stating that I'm moving and service needs to be returned to the landlord. Much simpler.

My internet will be taken away from me on Wednesday afternoon. This makes me very sad, but I have to be here to hand over my modem and that was the only day they had any spots open on their schedule. I'll still have internet access at work on Thursday and Friday, at least, and then it will be catch as catch can until I get moved and new service set up. I don't know how long that will take, but I've been assured I'll be able to set up a separate phone line at my sister's so I'll be able to get dial-up at the very least. *shudders at the thought of going back to dial-up*

Now it's time to get ready for another funfilled day at work. Hopefully I'll be able to do a lot of sitting and won't have to run around too much on my sore toe.

I had a lovely, successful yard sale this morning. I sold all four bookshelves and both dressers (the nice people are coming back on Thursday to pick the dressers up), probably two-thirds of my big box-o'-puzzles and lots of books. You'd never know I sold lots of books, seeing as I still have an enormous quantity of them sitting in the living room. But I really did sell a lot.

It was very nice, warm and sunny this morning and everything seemed to be going swimmingly and then around 12:30 or 1 big grey clouds rolled in and it started to pour. We had to hurriedly move everything back inside. Now it's all cleared up and sunny again, but I'm not taking everything back out. Everything that's left will just have to be donated to the Veteran's or something.

All in all, though, I'm very satisfied. :)

ETA: A latecomer showed up an hour or so after I took everything in and offered to buy all my books (at least 200-300) for five dollars. It wasn't much, but it was more than I would have gotten from donating them to the Veteran's Association, so I took him up on the offer. One less thing to worry about. :)

So. [livejournal.com profile] westwindschild just left a little while ago. She and her husband came out yesterday afternoon, stayed for the party and met many people, including [livejournal.com profile] eve11, [livejournal.com profile] uisceboo, [livejournal.com profile] mamoulian and [livejournal.com profile] apb_age, [livejournal.com profile] cajun, [livejournal.com profile] panthera_onca and his wife E, and [livejournal.com profile] pumpkinescobar.

This morning I packed up all the things I want to keep but can't take with me to New Hampshire and we loaded everything into her car. It was a little stressful, but we all got through it. I packed more than four boxes of books and somehow, the bookshelves look just as full as ever. I packed up all my sewing and crafting stuff, except for what I will need to make my costumes over the summer. I packed up all my fandom stuff. Autographs and photos, memorabilia -- everything except my action figures. They're going with me. Sadly, there is still a vast amount of stuff here, nearly all of which I will be getting rid of in the next few weeks. But it's all good, cause I was able to fit everything I wanted into my sister's car, with room left over for more, so I kept more than I thought I would. Pretty amazing, really, how much stuff will fit in the trunk of a car.

Pah-tay! )

I think I can relax a little now. Next weekend K and I are having a yardsale and anything that is left after that will go to the Veterans' Association or the trash. Then I'll be done. It should be a little easier from here on out. *crosses fingers*

Meep...

I have all these thoughts swimming around in my head and when I write them down they just seem foolish and pointless. I'm going to write them down anyway.

Too much information, running round my brain )

Too much information, driving me insane )

Well, that's enough moping for one night. I'm going to go watch some Angel and have an early-ish night, so I can get up bright and early tomorrow and make the place presentable. I'll give it a go, at any rate. :)

Bummer...

Well, the nannying job in California is officially a no-go. I'm a little disappointed because it would have worked out really well for me, but I will just have to find some other really good option that will make moving practical and affordable. It can and will be done. This I solemnly swear.

On the plus side, not in agony today, so yay!
