I just can't keep up with all this change.

Okay, so my primary and secondary science classes have pretty much all been invalidated and I have seriously little clue as to what is actually being taught these days.

What I do know:

1. They don't call them Starfish anymore, they call them Sea Stars.
2. The Solar System is no longer considered to consist of nine planets.

What I don't know:

Really a lot. So, I do recall there being a lot of talk a couple of years ago about how they'd found a tenth planet, which it turns out is called Eris. And then, I didn't hear any more about that for quite awhile. Next up, it was demoting Pluto to a dwarf planet, leaving us with eight planets. And now I learn that there are 11 planets, three of them dwarfs, one of them in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Which is it, people? I'm in the middle of my solar system unit and I no longer know what to tell the kids. *flails around in panicky teacher mode*

You should see all the changes they've made in biology just since I was in high school!

I can believe it. Nothing stays the same for long in this world. It can be a bit disconcerting, though, to realize that the knowledge I have is so innaccurate, in some cases.
