Not bad for a Saturday

After an unpleasantly tiring week, my game plan for today was to take it easy and do as little as possible. Of course, the same game plan also included going shopping, doing housework, and unpacking/organizing my bedroom a little bit more. Oddly enough, I was more successful at the second than the first.

[livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl and I had a lazy morning, then hopped in the car and headed off to take care of the shopping portion of the day. First stop, REI to buy some good, solid shoes for my long walk. Then, after a lunch break at Panera (I still miss my local Panera, more than a year after it closed) we went to the Waterfront to stop at Best Buy (a cd player, since my laptop overheats when I leave it on for extended periods of time), Office Depot (2 drawer file cabinet and hanging folders), Target (summer shirts, socks and stuff) and back home.

I dumped all my new goodies in my room, glanced around and saw:

(just inside the door)

(panning left towards the desk)

Four hours later, I was tired, cranky and feeling pretty frustrated. It seemed that the mess was as big as ever, there was still a ton of stuff that had no home, and it seemed entirely possible that I would never conquer the mess. But then I deconstructed all the big boxes and carried them out of the room, and repacked the things that hadn't found a home yet. And all of a sudden, things looked a little better.

(no more boxes)

(the desk, actually functional!)

The room still needs a fairish amount of work - all of my crafting supplies are stuffed into cardboard boxes under the desk, and there's a bunch of miscellaneous stuff crammed here and there, some in boxes and some in nooks and crannies. The file cabinet helped enormously, though. Once I get some art up on the walls, that will help a lot as well. But for now, I have a functional desk, a cd player, some organization for my personal papers, and I can walk across the floor without having to step over and around all sorts of things. Not bad for a day that was meant to be lazy!
