The computer lab upgraded to MS Word 2007. This means while I can work at home and then revise at school, I can't do it the other way around. Stupid computer lab. Plus, I'm not loving Word 2007. I don't think it's any better than 2003 and in some cases it's worse. All I wanted to do was put page numbers on my document. Once I did that I couldn't figure out how to get it out of header/footer mode and let me work on the paper again. Grr!

Okay, I'm off for seven hours of quality time with a classroom desk now. I wish I'd thought to bring some advil because my knee already hurts and the sitting marathon hasn't even started yet. *sigh*

That's what I don't like about computer programm upgrades. It's odd though, that it wouldn't accept a Word2003 document and just convert it.

Well, it isn't upgrading from 2003 to 2007 that I was worried about, it was the downward compatibility. But I've been told that it's possible to do that as well, so that makes it a bit better. :)

We've had Office 2007 for a few months now, and I have to say, I hate it.

You can "save as" an older format though and then work on it at home.
=D

YES! do the save as... the option in the save as type should say: Word 97-2003 & 6.0/95 - RTF (*.doc)

the good side effect is that your docs will be MUCH smaller... ;)

I dread the day when our students come back in the fall to find Office 2007 on all of the college's computers. I predict the library staff is going to have to answer many panicky questions regarding the new Office suite. Ugh.
=(

Thanks! Smaller docs are always good. :)

That's good to know. :)

If you get yourself a USB U3 smart drive you can load open office onto it and use that for word processing instead. Take it home, take it to school, never be stuck with incompatible files.

Hm, that's something to consider. :)

Is Word 07 not backward compatible.

[identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, according to several of the comments here, apparently it is, which is good to know. :)

I love the new Word 2007!

There is a learning curve to the new ribbon in all of the office products but it's very intuitive once you get the hang of it.

Keep at it.

Hm, the part that bugged me most was adding page numbers. Once I did that I couldn't figure out how to get out of header/footer mode and actually work on the paper more. :(
