(no subject)

After lunch (which happens at eleven a.m. in the infant room) and clean-up today, we loaded our older infants into the cart and took them upstairs. Someone had set up a tv in the preschool hallway, with the inauguration showing. We missed most of it, but our babies got to see the last two minutes of President Obama's speech. They may be too young to understand or remember, but we aren't.

I just finished watching the whole thing on YouTube. It was a good speech. An inspiring speech. A speech that made me want to be a better American, more aware, more involved, more active in making our country what we want it to be. And I salute all the people who worked so tirelessly to make this day happen.

Even though the babies are too small to remember watching the event, I'm glad they had the opportunity to watch it with you (and you with them). It was inspiring and being exposed to inspiring historical events has to be good even for minds too young to create conscious memories.

They'll at least be able to say, somewhere down the line, that they witnessed an historic event, whether they actually remember it or not.
