auntiemeesh: (What?)

(no subject)

Mal and I are getting to know Zoe better as the week progresses. For instance, unlike Mal who was most active around 11pm, Zoe seems to be at her wildest at about 6am. She's been thumping around, jumping up on my dresser, etc, very early in the morning.

She and Mal are still feeling each other out. So far, Mal has been giving way to Zoe pretty much every time. He's actually a little hysterical to watch. Zoe will look at him and he'll flinch away. She'll turn her back and he'll make a threatening move (from a distance), she'll turn around to look at him and he'll once again retreat, lol.

They fuss at each other a little bit first thing in the morning and right before bed, but during the bulk of the day, things seem pretty calm. Mal has so far allowed Zoe to claim the bedroom as her territory, which means I don't get Mal in the face at six in the morning, demanding I get out of bed and feed him, NOW! On the downside, I also haven't been getting my post-shower snuggles from Mal, either. They both lurk in the bathroom the whole time I'm in there, but Mal isn't feeling comfortable enough yet, and tends to run away as soon as she comes close to me. Poor guy. I've been trying to give him lots of extra petting and soothing, as much as he'll accept.

In other news, I had a perfectly reasonable amount of sleep the past couple of nights, but feel as though I'm dragging an elephant around with me, I'm that sluggish. Sinusy feelings abound and I want to go back to bed.

The kids sound cute!

Hope you're feeling better asap!
=D

Perhaps I'll feel better by the weekend? One never knows, but there doesn't seem to be much likelihood I'll get rested up much during the week.

I know what you mean--I've been exhausted for days, but just can't get the real rest I need to get better. Ugh...

I think M&A get up pretty early to feed their zoo so she may be used to that schedule.

That's totally possible. She hasn't really been poking at me for food at that hour, though, just running around. It might also just by her natural bio-rhythm.

Sounds like a pretty good beginning to the new friendship between Mal and Zoe. If they are doing this well now, they will probably be settled in nicely in another week or so.

Hope you feel better.

They're doing moderately well together. There was a certain amount of fur flying early this morning, but they seem calmer this evening.

Hope you get to feeling better soon. Sounds like the purry kids are doing pretty well. I am sure it is amusing to watch them get to know each other.

Mal has given me the most ridiculously sad eyes a few times this week, but just now he's come asking for cuddles so I think he's feeling better.

Glad to hear the kids are acclimating. My understanding is that regardless of age or seniority in the household, the female usually ends up ruling the roost. As they are close enough to the same age, they should shake together pretty well in no time. I should have had that in mind when I was picking little girl kitty orphans from the backyard - my 3 get along great as long as there's only one in the room -lol.

Hah! Tell that to Amok!

[identity profile] westwindschild.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Amok was a special case. Wasn't he coming into a household without a cat, though?

[identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Tookie was never the top cat, so my personal experience has been the male cats assuming the alpha role. But little miss Zoe has clearly assumed that position in our household, lol.

[identity profile] westwindschild.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
There are always exceptions to every rule, and Tookie spent her life reluctantly adapting to new cats; maybe she just got tired of fighting for boss-hood!

Before you know it they'll be beating each other up like my pair of Rock'em Sock'em Ro-cats. I swear if I didn't know that K & G seem to consider each other extensions of their own bodies, and if it weren't for the absence of hissing, I'd think the two of them were intent on killing each other.

Oh, the fur was flying this morning. Unfortunately, it wasn't so much play as fighting for dominance, still. Just a little spat, but there were tufts of fur from both of them left on the carpet. They seem calmer this evening, though.
