thoughts on a thursday morning

My eyes are super dry and gritty this morning. Fourth night in a row that I haven't slept well and I can feel my patience slipping a little. I'm kind of glad it's a gloomy, rainy morning. I don't think I'd be able to handle any sort of aggressive sunshine right now. But I've got coffee and a snuggly sweatshirt, so I'll live.

I've been trying to come up with a halloween costume but the creative side of my brain seems to have gone on vacation. I sort of want to do an android. The World's First Intelligent Android, run on Microsoft's innovative new Windows Sapiens operating system. I've got a bunch of old electronics I could scavenge to make a 'hidden' control panel somewhere on me that could pop open. There's a lot I could do with it, but it seems to lack the flair for 'mad science run amok' which is the theme for the party. If I was a bolder, more outgoing and socially capable person, I could run amok through the party, making hilarious social blunders on purpose and then spouting all sorts of ridiculous error codes and then just randomly freezing in place until someone rebooted me. It would be so much fun, if only I were the sort of person who could do that. I may do it anyway, since I can't think of doing anything else, other than a generic Mad Scientist.

Your idea for a costume sounds fabulous! Do it--and have a blast with it.
=D

Problem is, I'm not really sure how to pull it off so that I don't just come across as a clueless spazz, rather than someone who is imitating a clueless spazz on purpose (since mostly, I'm just a clueless spazz).

I think you should go for it. It sounds great to me.

thanks. :)

The costume/performance idea sounds great to me. If you want some tips on social blunders to make, let me know. I'm usually pretty good on that score, although perhaps not hilariously so!

[identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't worry, I'm pretty excellent on the social blunder side of things. It's making it clear I'm doing it on purpose, not just being my usual clueless spazz, that's the hard part.

I'd think the robot costume and random error messages would be a clue. In fact, I might start wearing one to all social occasions just to make it look like I was trying to be blunderous instead of just succeeding at it!
(A couple of weeks ago I got a message from the Ole Miss yearbook saying they wanted to interview/photograph me because I have a reputation as a "quirky" professor. Imagine how self-confident that made me feel! In fact, they begged me to allow them to take a photo of me demonstrating the toddling/falling of a typical 12 month old. Good thing I've never seen the Ole Miss yearbook and don't expect to see this one!)

Well, I always liked my quirky professors the best. Much more interesting than the rest of them. Take it as a compliment!

Well, if it's a microsoft system, that means that the Blue Screen of Death is inevitable. And if an android took the Blue Screen of Death literally, I would think it would run pretty amok.

Not sure how to convey that through a costume, though!

I hadn't even thought of the Blue Screen of Death. I'll have to ponder that awhile and see what I come up with.

You could get one of those roll down window shade in the narrowest size, color the shade royal blue - attach it across your shoulders and periodically pull the shade down to cover your display screen (that is if you have a display screen somewhere on your torso).

I don't think I'm going to have an outside display screen anywhere on me, although I might have a little (2x2) one that's in a "hidden" access panel somewhere. I'm still working on it.

It only takes one night of little sleep to make me grumpy and 'out of it' and saying things I regret later. I hope you can get a good night's sleep tonight!

Luckily, I finally got some decent sleep last night and I feel so much better today.

I love the costume idea! I'd need to think up some error messages ahead of time. And I don't think you need the blue screen of death, since androids don't have screens. Spazziness should do just fine.

[identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com 2010-10-01 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely need to have all the errors and blunders planned out in advance. Otherwise it really would just be me spazzing around being an idiot.

[identity profile] lyda-pearl.livejournal.com 2010-10-01 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you should totally do it....it's a performance piece. be bold, have fun.

[identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com 2010-10-01 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not at all sure I want to be a performance piece. I think it would be a lot easier/more comfortable (and therefore fun for me) if I just have some visual clues to the errors on my costume. I haven't worked it all out yet, but it will be fun when it comes together.
