Partay!

I'm glad I managed to get a few pics of the costume before I left for the party yesterday, because I didn't get any at the party. But it was a fun night. I know the hostess, have met her boyfriend and didn't know anyone else at all. But I managed to mingle and do a little socializing anyway, and spent a lot of time just hanging out watching and listening. And there was some dancing. I haven't danced in years so that was tremendous fun!

The costumes were fun. A guy in a Tyler Myers jersey with an old school goalie mask. A cool go-go dancer outfit, Peg and Al Bundy, Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights, Mrs. Ben Roethlisberger. Someone came as a burger, friend C was a lion. Al Borland from Home Improvement (really drunk, high and pretty obnoxious, unfortunately), the Blind Melon bee, a neutrino, the ballerina from Black Swan, a bunch of other stuff I either can't remember or didn't get.

I got home around 3:45, which is hugely late for me these days, and it still took me over an hour to fall asleep. I hate my brain some days. But I made myself get up "early" so that there is some hope of sleeping tonight. Somehow I have a feeling today will not be the most productive day ever, lol.

Pics of the costume. )

Wow, I'm glad September is a thing of the past. Other than Dragon*Con, it was mostly just a very crappy month. But now, October is here, it is fall, and things are starting to look up again.

I've fallen out of the habit of paying attention to new tv shows in the fall, but I watched the first two eps of Hawaii Five-O over the weekend and I liked it. Third time's the charm, I guess, when it comes to Alex O'Loughlin. I tried really hard to like Moonlight, but I just couldn't buy his portrayal of the vampire. I gave Three Rivers one shot, and didn't even last a full episode because of him. But he felt a lot less bland and generic-pretty-boy in Hawaii Five-O so there's hope.

We're about a third of the way through Merlin season three, now, and I'm fighting boredom tooth and claw. It feels like every episode is a slightly reworked rehash of a previous episode. Plus, I'm not all that keen on the sullenly lurking Evil!Morgana storyline. I keep watching though, in the hope that it re-engages my interest soon.

In non-tv related news, [livejournal.com profile] eve11's halloween party is coming up in a couple weeks and I'm still trying to figure out how to do the costume I have in mind. I think there's going to be a thrift store shopping spree this weekend, however, so hopefully that will provide some answers.

And there's still OKCupid, to provide me with entertainment when all else fails. Started emailing with a new guy on Sunday. He seems a little bit more needy than I'm entirely comfortable with, and he's fifteen years older than me, but his profile looked interesting, so I'll continue to email him and see what happens. I also got a text from the guy that I went out with back in August. He'd gone away on a month long trip and just got back recently. I had, honestly, pretty much forgotten about him, but he wants to hang out sometime soon. So I may have a few not!dates coming up.

Oh, and I got my hair cut. Really, really cut. I wanted it to look like this:

and it pretty much does, actually, although my color isn't as deep as hers. I'll post a pic once I have one.

My eyes are super dry and gritty this morning. Fourth night in a row that I haven't slept well and I can feel my patience slipping a little. I'm kind of glad it's a gloomy, rainy morning. I don't think I'd be able to handle any sort of aggressive sunshine right now. But I've got coffee and a snuggly sweatshirt, so I'll live.

I've been trying to come up with a halloween costume but the creative side of my brain seems to have gone on vacation. I sort of want to do an android. The World's First Intelligent Android, run on Microsoft's innovative new Windows Sapiens operating system. I've got a bunch of old electronics I could scavenge to make a 'hidden' control panel somewhere on me that could pop open. There's a lot I could do with it, but it seems to lack the flair for 'mad science run amok' which is the theme for the party. If I was a bolder, more outgoing and socially capable person, I could run amok through the party, making hilarious social blunders on purpose and then spouting all sorts of ridiculous error codes and then just randomly freezing in place until someone rebooted me. It would be so much fun, if only I were the sort of person who could do that. I may do it anyway, since I can't think of doing anything else, other than a generic Mad Scientist.

The annual halloween madness is on. [livejournal.com profile] eve11 picked me up from work last night, we hit up the grocery store for lots and lots of food, then made it back to her place to watch the last half of the Penguins game. Ostensibly, we were going to work on party things while watching the game, but sadly, pretty much all our focus was on hockey.

(side note: the Penguins, who were looking pretty lackluster the entire game, were down 1-3 with three minutes left in the game. At 2:56, they were down 2-3. At 2:17 they had tied the game. They held on through a fast five minutes of overtime, went to a shoot out, and won the game off Sidney Crosby's unbeaten record of 4-0 in shootout chances this season. Another hard-fought win for the Pens!)

After the game we did finally start doing a little bit of party-related work. We got the stars for our Hollywood Shamble of Fame game cut out while watching the new Dawn of the Dead remake. Then watched the last bit of the hockey game on replay while finishing the stars. Then it was two in the morning and I wussed out and went to bed.

We're getting a slow start this morning, inevitable, I think, but my hair is in curlers for the Donna Reed costume and if I can just get my hands on some coffee, I might be ready for work.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Last night was the Halloween party. Not all that glitters is fun )

Today, [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl, [livejournal.com profile] whtmtnwmn and I took Sunny and Ben out for a nice long hike (well, it was long by my standards, although I know for Ben and his mommy it was just a short little stroll). We hiked nearly all the way up Mt. Forest, which ends in cliffs overlooking Berlin. We turned around about ten minutes short of the top because poor Sunny the Three-Legged Wonder Dog was getting a bit gimpy on her emergency backup fourth leg. It was still a good hour and a half on a steepish incline, so I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Gotta get fit )
