Nature, wild and wonderful (or not)

After the rain we had last week and over the weekend, the skies have cleared up and returned to Blinding Blue. On my walk to work yesterday, I passed a little garden and saw a butterfly just hanging out on one of the flowers. So of course I had to pull out my handy dandy camera and snap a few pics.

And once again I'm amazed at what the macro setting on my not at all powerful camera can do. You can see the scales on the butterfly's wing.

In other interactions with wildlife, I had a spider drop onto my face as I was trying to get to sleep last night. This was after I finally got relaxed and comfy, after an hour and a half of tossing and turning. I was finally almost asleep and then I'm up and flailing. Turned on the lights, tossed back the pillows and sheets and found the sucker in the middle of the bed, stunned. *shudders* I'm very polite to bugs outside, in nature, but inside my house, they are toast.

Sadly, it put paid to any relaxation I might have found earlier and it was another two or three hours of tossing and turning before I finally fell asleep. Looooonnnnggggg night.

Nice shots! Great closeup. I've been trying to get a nice macro shot of a butterfly this summer, to no avail.

Same thing happened to me last night, but with some kind of flying insect under the sheets. Scared the sleep right out of me when it started crawling up my thigh. Ack!
=D

That butterfly yesterday didn't even twitch his wings as I came in closer for the macro shot. It was very focused. And I didn't notice his mangled hindwing until I looked at the pictures last night. Poor thing.

what a fantastic picture! Hey, that would make a fun jigsaw puzzle on that site that you got me addicted to showed me the other day :)

And eep! about the spider. I can deal with them hanging around the house, but in bed, dive-bombing me while sleeping? Cue girly screams.

I think I managed to do without the girly screams, but there was much, much flailing of limbs. Mal, sleeping on the bed the whole time, barely even twitched. When I turned the lights on, he squinted at me for a brief moment before closing his eyes and going back to sleep. He was supremely unimpressed by my freakout.

Wow, those are great shots.

Thanks. Every now and then I get a lucky shot in, and then I can pretend that I have great photographic skills, lol.

What amazing and beautiful photos!

[identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com 2009-07-28 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It pays to carry my camera around with me all the time, even though I tend to not use it as often as I'd like.

Beautiful picture! Yuck on the spider - hate them!

Thanks. :)

This was the third spider in maybe two weeks. At least the other two were in the bathroom and kitchen, not dive-bombing me in bed in the middle of the night.

Lovely photos! I'm surprised you didn't pull out your camera and photograph your little bedmate, too! (Just kidding! That sounds too much like a nightmare come true for any response other than fierce flailing! Sorry it disrupted your hard won relaxation.)

Yeah, no, I have no interest in taking pictures of the creepy crawly spider that infiltrated my bed last night. *shudders*

Beautiful pictures as always! You and your camera make a great team.

Why, thank you!

Oh, that's pretty!

Here it's raining again. No more summer here.

It's raining here, too, today. We've had a very odd summer so far, I have to say. Not that I'm complaining - I prefer the cooler, wetter days, so it's been mostly right up my alley.
