Just slightly more than a double drabble
Jul. 31st, 2005 11:01 pmFrodo, book in hand, sat curled up in his favorite chair, just close enough to the hearth to feel a gentle heat radiating outward from the small fire. The day had been unseasonably cool, not that anyone had minded a break from the mid-summer heat, and there was a distinct nip to the air this evening. Just enough to make sitting in front of the fire seem a fine thing, Frodo reflected as Bilbo entered the room, carrying a tray with tea things.
Setting his book aside, Frodo uncurled and walked over to Bilbo's side. "Shall I be Mother?" he offered as Bilbo set the tray down.
"That would be lovely, lad. Thank you."
Frodo concentrated on his task, making sure none of the leaf escaped the strainer to end up in his cousin's cup. Once he had fixed Bilbo's tea just the way the old hobbit liked it, with plenty of cream and just a hint of honey, he made a cup for himself, with much less cream but a dollop more of the sweet honey. Returning to his chair and once more curling his legs up under him, he sighed in deep satisfaction. He opened his book again, but promptly lost himself in dreams, gazing deep into the fire. This, he knew on some deep level, was as close to perfect as life needed to get.

Date: 2005-08-01 12:48 am (UTC)I`ve always found the phrase "Shall I be mother" incredibly funny. Don`t know why, it just sounds strange. I suppose it`s commonly used, but it rings very weird in my ears, lol. Maybe it`s because we don`t have a phrase for pouring out drink fto people. :)

Date: 2005-08-01 06:16 am (UTC)It`s always nice to see Bilbo and Frodo happy at Bag End.
I've got tons of angsty stuff demanding to be written and I needed a little moment of peace and serenity to balance it out. I'm glad you liked it. :D
