I'm still working my through the forest of books in my living room. One thing has become abundantly clear. I need real bookshelves. I have one small shelf on my desk that is both tall and deep enough to hold my hardback and over-sized paperback books. Another thing I realized is that I've lost my copy of Physics of the Impossible by Michio Kaku. I suppose it's possible that I lent it to someone or left it at work, but I don't remember lending it to anyone, and I haven't seen it lying around at work. I hate losing books. It's got me totally distracted from the progress I was making in getting the books I do have organized. Grr!

In other news, Evgeni Malkin, head number 2 of the Penguins two-headed monster, has a torn MCL and ACL. The Pens are "discussing options" with the team doctors, but I'm guessing none of the options include him returning to the ice any time soon. So much for yesterday's prediction that he was going to break out this weekend. *sigh* Luckily, the team has been finding ways to win without their two stars in the lineup for a while now, but it's been mostly against lower-tier teams. With a game against the Capitals tomorrow, and five of the next eleven against play-off ready teams, February is going to be a test for the Pens.

In other other news, I'm looking for new music. Recommend me some, folks. I don't listen to the radio much and when I do, it's mostly 80s and 90s stuff. I'm bored with everything I have but don't know where to start looking for new.

Meme snurched from [livejournal.com profile] grey_wonderer

So, here’s how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don’t lie!

Soundtrack of a life, if it was a really, really weird life )

Happy meme, day #2

1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this everyday for eight days without fail.

One, it's the last day before a long weekend. This is always made of win.
Two, it's an absolutely gorgeous, picture perfect spring morning.
Three, I started out the day listening to new music. I bought Pretty. Odd. by Panic at the Disco a few days ago. Absurdly silly lyrics, ridiculously bouncy music. Possibly the best thing to listen to first thing in the morning.

Huh!

Computers, I will never understand them )

It has, honestly, been a kind of crappy week at work. I seem to be stepping wrong with everyone, despite my best efforts. In an effort to console myself, I started an SGA Robin Hood AU.

Wee snippet of SGA Robin Hood AU, raw, rough and unfinished, spoilers for season three plotlines )

So, Heroes last night.

Spoilers for the finale )

In other news, I've acknowledged and accepted the fact that I'm doomed to live in the past for the most part, especially when it comes to music. Every now and again there will be something current that I like, but mostly, I just continue to listen to the oldies but goodies. Yes, I am my parents. *sigh* I actually downloaded some music from iTunes yesterday (only the second time I've done that - I really am a dinosaur). One Five for Fighting song which is only a year or two old, I think - 100 Years. It was playing on the radio yesterday morning and I got a sudden, irresistable urge to write a fic inspired by it (got a little over 2000 words written yesterday, probably will now sit on my harddrive for a couple of years) so went off and dled it to have as writing inspiration. Then, in order to continue the musical inspiration theme, I had to go find a bunch of music from the early eighties to reference in the fic. This led to a desperate need to obtain a copy of Men at Work's Business as Usual album, which I no longer have because I got rid of all my cassettes a couple of years ago (goodbye music collection, I loved you well). Oh, how I love that album, I'm a sucker for sax music like they have, and I love Colin Hay's voice. *is happy*

[livejournal.com profile] pumpkinescobar tagged me for this one a while ago and I missed the post. Just saw it yesterday.

List your current six favorite songs, then pick six other people that have to do the same.

1. Changes, by 3 Doors Down
2. Easily, by Red Hot Chili Peppers
3. D'you Know What I Mean, by Oasis
4. Disease, by Matchbox 20
5. Good Times Gone, by Nickelback
6. The Masterplan, by Oasis

Maybe someday I'll be a little more cutting edge, but honestly, probably not. I tend to be a little bit behind the times with my musical tastes. Give me another five years and I'll be totally on board with whatever was really hot and new this last year, lol.

Now to tag six people to do this meme...

[livejournal.com profile] i_o_r_h_a_e_l, [livejournal.com profile] westwindschild, [livejournal.com profile] knittedmerry, [livejournal.com profile] pipspebble, [livejournal.com profile] fell_beast2 and [livejournal.com profile] slightlytookish, if you haven't done it already.

Howdy all!

I've made it as far as Wilkes-Barre. This feels like something of an accomplishment. After saying goodbye to everyone at work yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] eve11 picked me up, we loaded up the car (with one or two little interruptions) and headed out, arriving at her family homestead around 7ish. Her sister was already out grilling so we had some very yummy cheeseburgers and salad, which we ate while watching Team America: World Police. Such a funny movie!

This morning we got up bright and early and got back on the road, arriving in W-B only a little past our 10am target. After transfering all my belongings from the back of Eve's car to the back of my sister's car (and bits and pieces stuffed into her husband's car as well), Eve headed back. My mom, younger brother and I then went to an Irish Festival about forty-five minutes from my mom's.

The festival was fun, if a bit on the cold and rainy side. We saw several good bands, including The Charlie Zham Trio and Blackwater. We froze because the weather forcast was mid-seventies and showers. What we got was maybe mid-fifties and a steady downpour, but it was worth it.

I lucked out and got a hotel room for the night, so I won't have to sleep on the roll-away bed in the dining room. This is a good thing!

Just cause it was on the radio at work (cleaning day = no kids = radio = happy me)

Led Zeppelin -- Ramble On

Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do...

[Chorus]
Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Got no time to for spreadin' roots, The time has come to be gone.
And to' our health we drank a thousand times, it's time to Ramble On.

[Chorus]

Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.
How years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air.
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair.
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah.

[Chorus]

Gonna ramble on, sing my song. Gotta keep-a-searchin' for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world. I can't stop this feelin' in my heart
Gotta keep searchin' for my baby. I can't find my bluebird!

Okay, I'm gonna try to limit my spam to two pointless posts today.
