I think I jinxed myself. Yesterday, while it was raining and raining and raining, I thought of a NH saying [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl had told me in October when we had our first snow of the season. It goes something along the lines of 'if snow sticks before Halloween, then it will cover by Thanksgiving.'

As I said it was raining and raining and raining as I thought this and it occurred to me that it didn't really look as though that particular bit of folklore would be proven true this year. Two hours later it was snowing and now it looks like a winter wonderland out there.

We don't have more than a couple of inches on the ground, but everything is clean and white, and there are still a few soft flakes floating almost aimlessly through the air. I don't know that this snow will really stay all winter, but it certainly makes for a pretty Thanksgiving.

since it probably isn't totally frigid yet... bundle up and go for a walk... there is something so inherently peaceful to me about the silence of a snowfall. as if the falling of snow heals the rents of sound. ;)

plus the cup of hot cocoa at the end is always better thus...

Yes, I suppose that will be inevitable soon. Lyda Pearl told me how much snowshoes cost and now I'm much less excited by the prospect, lol.

The first snow of the year has such a magical quality about it, for some reason.

We may or may not go out tonight, but we're going for a walk in the woods tomorrow morning with the dogs, so by the time we get home we should be in the mood for hot cocoa and all kinds of good Thanksgiving treats, mmmmm....

Oooh, lovely... Lucky you! I've spent an evening in an old pub with a log fire but stupidly walked home and now have cold ears - lots of unseasonably cold weather here but no snow to speak of. Still hoping, though!

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

*hugs*

What a lovely, cozy image that brings to mind. Maybe the image alone will be enough to keep me warm.

Although it turned out we only got a few flurries for an hour. So, it doesn't really count as the first snow (*holds out for real good first magical snow*).

:D

I saw a pair of sturdy but plastic snowshoes in Plow & Hearth for $59.99. Probably cheap crap compared to what seasoned New Englanders wear, but you might look at them. I'm pretty sure P&H is online.
If I thought there was a chance I'd get to use them here in PA, I'd get 'em, but even with a big winter, I'm not likely to get much snowshoing in.
