Oh, that's gonna leave a bruise.

This is my very least favorite winter weather - snowing, warming up to melt things just a little, refreezing, more snow, a little rain, refreezing again. The sidewalks that haven't been taken care of are a sheet of ice an inch thick. And the sidewalks between CMU and work haven't been taken care of (mostly student apartments, I think).

So, yeah, I slipped on a very smooth, icy patch, couldn't catch my balance and landed pretty hard on my right thigh/hip and left knee. The right knee was twisted/torqued just enough to trigger the usual pain which, oddly enough, my run hadn't triggered. My barely touched coffee spilled all over the sidewalk (almost enough to make me cry all by itself). On the plus side, a strapping young man who just happened to be walking by came over and effortlessly hoisted me back to my feet.

I was feeling pretty sore by the time I got to work, but a couple of advil later, I'm feeling mostly better, but there will definitely be bruises.

All this on top of a not terribly happy run this morning. I made my 2.25 miles in good time, but it was not fun. I tried speeding up earlier than usual (maybe 1.5 miles in, instead of waiting till 2 mi.) so I didn't really have any energy left at the end, but I did make it, and I think it's good to push myself on occasion, or I will never improve. I just have to learn when it's best to push and how much.

One of my coworkers gave me some 'motherly' advice to take a hot bath tonight so that I wouldn't stiffen up overnight, after my fall this morning. I took her advice, not that I thought tomorrow would be such a problem otherwise, but it certainly felt good. Since then I've been reading fic, snuggling on the couch with Tookie, Mal and Thor in turn, and just generally relaxing.
