That, my friends, is what I call awesome!
May. 13th, 2009 10:30 pmGame seven of the Pens-Caps series tonight. After six hard-fought games, only one of which was won by more than one goal, I was exhausted. I can't imagine how all the hockey players were feeling. After Monday's at home OT loss, the Caps had the momentum going back to Washington.
I expected a nailbiter that came down to the last seconds, and I was, sadly, lacking in confidence that the Pens could pull it off.
The game started off with both teams fighting hard. Ovechkin almost got the first goal, but Fleury made a huge save. And then, about halfway through the first period, Crosby got a power play goal, followed eight seconds later by another Pens goal. And then they were off and running. Another two goals about a minute and a half apart in the beginning of the second period and Caps rookie goalie Varlamov was cracked like a nut. Off he went and Theodore was put back in the net. Another Pens goal brought them up 5-0. Ovechkin finally got a goal late in the second period, giving the Caps a brief surge of momentum, but the Pens held them off till the end of the period. Third period, the Pens scored again, followed by one more Caps goal, leaving the final score 6-2.
The Penguins just dominated this game. They played clean, allowing no power play opportunities for the Caps. They kept their momentum during the second period, where they've been sadly lacking for most of this series. It was, in a word, awesome.
