The gods are laughing at me
Jun. 28th, 2009 07:33 pmDid some babysitting today. Poor little guy was sick as a dog, Dad had promised older brother a trip to PNC Park to watch the Pirates lose to Kansas City and Mom had a work thing she couldn't cancel. So I got a call at 9 am this morning to find out if I was free this afternoon. I'm such a sucker. I just hope I don't get sick as a reward - it's just a fever/cold thing, so it won't kill me, but who wants to be sick in the summer (or ever, really)? He spent most of the time sleeping, waking long enough to whimper and cry, and then going back to sleep. A good forty minutes of that sleep-time was on me, as I soothed him and watched Amazing Wedding Cakes (I'm becoming addicted to the show, despite the fact that every time I've seen it, they've been showing the same two episodes).
In other news, I have apparently lost my soul. With hockey season over, I found myself today hanging out on the Pirates website and surfing for Pirates blogs. So far I've only found a boring pro-MLB blog with info about games, who's playing or injured or traded or such, but I'm sure I'll find something more fun soon. If only Hockey, Football and Stilleto Shoes could add baseball to the mix.
I don't really want to dive into the world of professional baseball. Apparently it's all very much srs bsns. Ian Snell, a struggling pitcher for the Pirates, got sent down to triple-A for his efforts. There he reports that he's having great fun, the team welcomed him with open arms and that they're all just big goofballs having fun. Not that the Pgh guys aren't fun, he hastily adds to cover his ass, but you know, they're working really hard.
Then again, it's not surprising that the Pirates aren't a fun crowd to hang around with. They're well under .500 and sitting not-so-pretty at the bottom of their division. Not exactly happy-fun-times stats, there.
Ugh, I want to have fun fandom things to rattle on about. But, all my shows are done for the summer, I've completely lost the ability to write fanfic (if I ever had it in the first place), and it's a long four months before hockey gets going again (and yes, I count hockey as a fandom - any sport that has an lj community devoted to mocking the badfic that is inspired by said sport counts as a fandom).
So, to sum up. Baseball = slightly overweight guys who do a lot of standing around, lying about steroid use, chew tobacco, and spit a lot. Hockey = silly but extremely fit boys who mock themselves and each other mercilessly, engage in mildly homoerotic foreplay before games and beat the crap out of each other during games. Which sport would you choose to love? I think you already know my answer.
