A friend from work came over this evening for movie night. I made some Chicken and Sweet Potato stew, which turned out pretty yummy, and we watched The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I bought a 2 disc set while at Walmart last weekend, and imagine my surprise when there was only one disc in the box when I opened it tonight. Looks like it's back to Walmart tomorrow to get it exchanged. Pretty sure I still have the receipt somewhere (crosses fingers).

Before we could watch the movie, I had to troubleshoot my DVD player. A couple weeks ago we tried to watch something and my tv wouldn't receive the signal from the DVD player. So this afternoon I spent some time trying to figure it out. It was only after I'd given up and wandered away that I wondered if maybe the cables were plugged in wrong on the back of the DVD player. Yup. Switched them around and presto! Everything worked. Sometimes I just assume the problem is more complex than it is, and defeat myself before I even have a chance. And then feel really silly when the simple answer presents itself.

While she was here, T wanted to see my various costumes, so I dug out everything I could handily reach and happily showed my messes off to her. Speaking of costumes, I really have to come up with some good ones for D*C 2014. I still want to do Agatha Heterodyne from Girl Genius. I've got the trousers already - the ones I rigged up for my miner costume last Halloween are pretty nearly perfect. I have a pattern for the underbust and some cool red brocade fabric - so all I really need is accessories for that outfit. It would be really awesome if I could get a group together for it, but since [livejournal.com profile] eve11 is the only costumer I really know, I suspect that won't happen. I also want to come up with some other ideas, though. It's possible that something really cool will show up in the next season of Doctor Who. Or I might do Riddell, from Dinosaurs on a Ship. As I was watching the credits for the movie, I saw the Piracy isn't a victimless crime warning, and had a crazy idea to go as an internet pirate. That could be kinda fun if I could find the right way to do it.
