I finally got around to watching the '96 Doctor Who movie. It was painfully cheesy and American, but somehow I still liked it. Had a terrible time wrapping my head around Eric Roberts as the Master. Bad guy, no problem, but he just lacked the refined malice that the Master usually displays. But then, the Master was more B-movie monster than evil mastermind in this anyway. And of course, Paul McGann, with that hair and that frock coat, looked far more like a hobbit than a Time Lord. In that get-up he looks enough like Billy Boyd that he could very plausibly have been Paladin or possibly a Tookish cousin. And now I feel like there must be some fic written in which the Eighth Doctor finds himself on Middle Earth and hangs out in the Shire for a while. All of this started, of course, because I was watching the commentaries for season one of Sherlock and Mark Gatiss kept throwing in little Doctor Who comments so once that was done, I was primed for DW. And now I want hobbit fic. The fannish brain is a terrible place, truly.
