I didn't even think about that, but you're right. I see hobbits in general as being very tradition in their approach to a lot of things and the fact that Bilbo was able to throw off that blind obedience to how things have always been done and take a different direction would make him seem somewhat dangerous to other hobbits, especially the most conservative like the S-Bs.
