This is just crazy. Eight minutes into the hockey game, Orpik left the ice and headed to the dressing room, and as of the first intermission, hadn't returned. If this is a major injury, it would be the sixth main player gone. We're looking at five defensemen, one of them (Derek Engelland) playing his very first NHL game, ever.

At some point, some of these injured players need to start healing up and coming back, or we're going to have the entire Baby Pens team here in Pittsburgh. Not to knock the Baby Pens, but that would not a winning season make.

On the plus side, the Pens managed to hold the Bruins off, so the score is 0-0 at the end of the first.

Update: End of the second period, and it's Boston 1, Penguins 0. The Pens are playing better than they did in the first period, getting some quality shots on goal, but the Boston defense is having an excellent game, blocking almost everything before it even gets to the goal. And the Boston goaltender is also having an excellent game. If the Pens can keep up the pace they had in the second period, something should get through eventually, but there's only twenty minutes left, do they have enough time?

Update 2: And the answer to that question is No. That was just a depressing game. Brooks Orpik got hurt eight minutes into the first period and never returned. That left the team with only five defense for almost the entire game. They pushed hard and had some good chances but just weren't able to give Fleury enough support to keep Boston out of net. And a power play with twenty seconds left in the game was almost more of a joke than anything else.

This was the first time in seven years that the Penguins got shut out in back to back games. Not good. This is a big test of Dan Bylsma's coaching. The first time the team has lost three in a row under his tenure. He needs to find a way to get the team moving, injuries or not.

Meh, I'm just bummed. I hate seeing my team struggle like this.
