One armed bandit

Ice skating tonight. This is probably about the fifth time in the past decade that I've actually made it out skating, and I only managed it because
eve11 found a good indoor rink on Neville Island.
My usual skating style is to stand on the skates and wiggle my feet back and forth a little to propel me forward. It's neither efficient nor comfortable, but it allowed me to move around the rink. Tonight, Eve challenged me to actually skate properly. After overcoming my initial reaction of 'hell no, that shit is gonna make me fall down and get hurt,' I got over my sad self and gave it a shot. And spun around in a circle. No lie. Oh well, I persevered and by a half hour in I was starting to feel pretty good. Or, well, at least I was moving about as fast as before, and my legs and ankles weren't hurting at all (normally I last a couple laps before needing a break). Sadly, my early prediction that things would in pain was all too prescient. The problem with skating properly is that the skates leave the surface of the ice occassionly. I got caught up on my toepick, twice. The second time I landed really badly on my shoulder. The good news is it's neither broken nor dislocated. The bad news is, I can only sorta move it. Work is gonna be a bitch tomorrow.* My knee is a little sore, and I'm gonna have a nice bruise on the back of my thigh as well, but I didn't even notice those sore spots until after the advil kicked in and the arm stopped hurting so much, lol.
In other news, I watched Doctor Who: The Mawdryn Undead last night. Fifth Doctor, and it's the first episode that I really remember actual details of from my first viewing as a child. It makes the episode special for nostalgic reasons alone. I liked the episode for the plot as well, though. A fun timey-wimey episode. Plus, it introduces Turlough, and it has the Black Guardian, who wears a delightfully weird raven-topped headpiece.
*Before you all jump on me, I will go to the doctor if it's really bad tomorrow, but I don't expect it to be a problem.
