auntiemeeshInitial impressions. Not so sure I'm keen on the new theme and logo but then, I always do hate changes. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually, but it seems to be barely Doctor Who music at all.
So, knowing nothing about the new companion other than that her name was Amy Pond, I guessed the little girl's identity after about ten seconds of screen time. I hope not all of the writing is going to be that predictable. Other than that I pretty much loved the episode to bits. Eleven's mad food cravings were hysterical. The first hospital scene, with all the coma patients calling for the Doctor, was creepy and reminded me a lot of the gas mask zombies, although it was a totally different thing.
(funny little side note, it just turned midnight and the lj clock just went to 0:00.)
I love how awesomely the Doctor failed at being cool, every single time he tried it. I loved that everyone in the neighborhood recognized him as the Raggedy Doctor and how he didn't want to look raggedy when facing the whosits. I love that he continues to fail to ever get where he's going on time.
There was still a touch of that Time Lord Victorious cockiness, but not the crazy that went with it. Just the utter and complete certainty that Earth is his and if anyone else messes with it, they will regret it. No one plays on Earth but him. Of course, that cockiness is backed up with a good bit of success in driving enemies from the door, so you kind of have to forgive him for that.
I hate the bowtie and suspenders look, sadly. I suppose I'll get used to it in the end, like everything else. I liked Amy Pond, with her extra mini police skirt and snappy attitude. She can't be too much in love with the bloke she was marrying next day, however, since she has to know there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that the Doctor will get her back by morning.
I loved that I made a timey wimey icon while waiting for the download to finish and then he said timey wimey in the episode. That filled me with silly glee.
And now we have weeks worth of new Who to look forward to. Yay!
