Quiet/boring weekend, but that's how I like them to be sometimes. I did a little laundry, washed a few dishes, and spent a lot of time cruisin' the internets. I watched some Patrick Troughton era Doctor Who - not many of his earlier episodes survived, so I made it through all of season five in very short order. I'm now familiar with Jamie and both Victoria and Zoe. Only one Victoria episode has survived, but I saw a couple with Zoe, whom I like a lot. And I love Jamie.
Just a fun, goofy episode in which fictional characters have been brought to life. Rapunzel, Gulliver and toy soldiers all inhabiting the same little space. It was a little confusing for someone watching from our era, since the baddie was a guy called The Master, but turned out not to be The Master (Time Lord baddie) but just some dime novel author who had labeled himself as The Master after being overtaken by an evil computer. My favorite moment was when (after getting frustrated with Jamie and Zoe because they had trouble accepting that the fictional characters weren't real and would cease to be a threat if denied) the Doctor encountered a superhero called Karkus from Zoe's time. Because Zoe knew him to be fictional and the Doctor had never encountered him, the Doctor had a terrible time of it, got tossed around a lot and bemoaned that he couldn't deny Karkus because he didn't know that Karkus wasn't real. But because Zoe did, she had great fun turning all Karkus' tricks back on himself and this tiny little girl was flipping the big superhero around until he cried uncle. I love it when the girls get to be tough, especially since most of the girls with Four and Five (with the exception of Leela) have been a little more on the "eek, a monster!" side of things and a little less on the taking care of business side.
I watched part of the hockey game, but I got bored. The Flyers came out crappy and went down 0-3. Now, not quite half way through the third, they are down 3-5. Looks like they'll be facing elimination, back on home ice, on Tuesday. To put it in perspective, last year things played out the same. The Pens couldn't win in Detroit and Detroit couldn't win in Pittsburgh. Game five was in Detroit and the Pens lost, and lost very, very badly. Horrifyingly badly, one might even be tempted to say. Nothing daunted, they came home, won here, went back to Detroit and did what they had to do. So the Flyers can't be counted out just cuz they're sucking tonight, but it does put them in a very dangerous position moving forward.
