After much toil and trouble, I've finished the corset, except for the busk which is getting holes put in it by someone with a drill. I think it looks pretty good (as long as you don't look too closely).

I had the string in and tried slipping it on, but I still can't raise my arm properly to slip clothing over my head and there was no wriggle room to do it one arm at a time, so I'll have to wait until [livejournal.com profile] eve11 and I have a fitting sometime later this week. The shoulder straps will tie down with ribbon that I'll put on at the same time, since I don't know how close they'll fall to the bodice.

I'm pretty sure it's going to continue being too small all summer, but I'll make a panel to put behind the lacing to make it look finished. That should be easy enough.

Next weekend I get to start looking at the gown pattern and putting that together!

I know I have said this before, but it bears repeating. You are so talented! I once tried to make a skirt. An A-line skirt. Once the screaming and tantrum was over, I had a scarf. Anyone who can so has my deepest admiration.

I meant "sew" of course! See, even the memory annoys me... :)

Aw, thanks! My challenge to myself this time around is to learn how to sew straight seams on the sewing machine (they usually wander all over the place). I'm getting better but my seams still look like the needle was chasing after a wandering ant in some places.

It looks fantastic! Your edging especially looks great. My seams wandered quite a bit on the tabs so the contrast binding isn't nearly as straight as yours. I have two slip-stitched as of now. Six to go...

PS: The bottom doesn't need to be edged with contrast binding? Hooray!

I don't know what's wrong with it if you do look closer, but from the pics it looks fabulous!

Great job! I have sworn off garment sewing--almost. I am sticking with quilts! The stuff you make is amazing.

Don't get too excited. You do use contrast binding on the bottom, to fasten the tabs. It just gets turned under so it only shows on the inside.

I ran out of the binding and had to make more, which due to my ineptitude in thinking things out, came out narrower than it was supposed to be. So I put that crappy stuff on the bottom where no one would ever see it, and used the good stuff on the tabs and the top.

The tips of the shoulder straps is where it gets really fun. :)

Thanks. There are numerous mistakes but since it's an undergarment, no one but me will ever have to see them. :)

I feel the same way about the quilts you make. I don't think I could ever do quilting because it demands so much more attention to detail.

Oh I already made another batch of contrast binding, since I made the original in just 18inch strips I knew I was going to run out because i kept getting lots of little scrap bits. So for the second bits of contrast binding I did figure out how to make the tube, but was less successful in the "line the pencil markings up" bit so I do have a long unbroken strand of contrast binding but it gets wonky every 18 inches or so.
