Okay, an attempt at live-blogging this puppy.
Original Doctor, upon finding the escape route, "Yowza!" Flesh Doctor, "Do we tend to say 'yowza'?" OD, "That's enough, let it go. Okay? We're under stress." Of course, the Doctor's hung out with himself before, so it's not quite as unique or scary a situation for him as it is for the acid miners.
Interesting how Jennifer is the one that ends up being the spokesperson for the Gangers. She's found her 'strong Jennifer', that's clear. I just wish she wasn't so angry. And what's this about her remembering all her previous Ganger incarnations and their demises. That doesn't sound at all promising.
Oh, things were going along so swimmingly until Amy starting talking about the Flesh Doctor being, 'almost the Doctor.'
Cleaves: "We need you to take us off the island immediately and Wipe. Them. Out." Well, there goes any hope of reconciliation. Well done, Cleaves. Well done.
Hm, the bio-identifier thing rejects Ganger!Jennifer as non-human. I wonder about that. They look human and contain an exact duplicate of the thought processes, etc. But how do the biological functions work? Do they have skin and organs and DNA, or are they just shaped like humans with a sort of imprint where the brain should be.
Ooh, now that's very interesting. Amy sensed Eye-Patch Lady a good few seconds before she showed up. And the Doctor called her a time-memory. "Nothing to worry about." Which means it most definitely is something to worry about. Oh, Doctor, you aren't very good at nonchalant reassurance.
And that really affected Flesh!Doctor. Ganger!Jennifer remembers all her previous selves' deaths, but Flesh!Doctor can feel them. That's a little bit horrible.
Oh boy! "Rory! This wheel...it's just too tough for a girl to turn." If this isn't a trap coming up I'll eat my hat. Playing on Rory's need to be The Man for a change, that's just not even fair.
So, Ganger!Jennifer managed to create another Ganger, just for the purpose of convincing Rory she was real by killing the second copy. That's very clever. But how did she manage it when you have to use the bio-scanner to sign in to the system and create the Ganger in the first place? Can a Ganger self-replicate just by touching the Flesh?
Poor Original!Jennifer. It's sad to think that she waited all her life for Strong Jennifer to come along and rescue her, and when Strong Jennifer finally did come along, she killed her. But it does explain how Ganger!Jennifer created a second Ganger. She must have used the weakened original to pass the bio-scan.
Yikes, that was disturbing. Yeah, I'm beginning to understand what the Flesh!Doctor said about the Flesh being angry and wanting revenge. This isn't about the individual Gangers being angry and resentful, although I'm sure they are. This is about the Flesh being more than the sum of its parts, and having a consciousness that overrides the individuals (or maybe not overrides, but exists in some way outside of the individuals). Which makes me a little curious to see how well Flesh!Doctor will be able to withstand that overriding consciousness which is pretty antithetical to his own personality.
"How long have we got?"
"Ah hour, five seconds, somewhere in between." Very precise, Doctor.
Man, so many little interesting bits in this. "Ring, ring. Ring, ring." How did he know the phone was going to ring? He got a little creepy there and I was feeling disappointed that he'd gone over to the dark side so easily.
"Push, Amy. But only when she tells you to." What the hell?!?!?!?!?!? Ahhhh!!!!!!! This whole weird pregnancy, Eye-Patch Lady, time memory thing is killing me. I just want to know what's going on!!!!!
Of course, since the Flesh!Doctor and the Original swapped shoes, that means Amy told Original about maybe seeing his death. How's that going to affect things, hmmm?
And Jennifer's turned into a literal monster. It makes me very sad because she really was a sweet kid, but hers was the weakest personality of the four Gangers, and so I guess it's not surprising that she was the one least able to withstand the Flesh's anger.
Oh, and look at that. Answers to the pregnancy thing. Of a sort. I really, really kind of loved that ending. So Amy's been Flesh all along (well, I'm guessing since they found her in the Silence's wanna-be-a-TARDIS). So none of my theories were very on the mark, but oh well. And the Doctor went there deliberately to break the signal so that he could free Amy and send her back to her body (at least, it looked to me like this was a 'normal' Flesh!Amy, with her consciousness in the Flesh body, only without knowing it - rather than an independently operated Flesh!Amy). I wonder how long the Doctor's known. All along, do you think? Or did he just realize gradually, as he pondered the inexplicable pregnancy scans. Probably the latter.
So many questions. A few answers. And a lovely little twisty cliff-hanger.
