I should be working right now...

I have two parent conferences this afternoon and I should really be preparing for them. The problem is, I can't concentrate on them. So, I made the mistake of popping over to my flist to see how the rest of you are doing. In an innocent moment, I read
dcdiva's Lost thoughts and she's triggered a new theory in my overtaxed little brain. (Cause it's so much more fun to think up new theories for Lost than it is to do my real work, you know.)
dcdiva quoted Hurley's comment to Arzt after the monster stomped by. "Dude!" he exclaimed, "I thought you were dead."
And there I was, suddenly impressed with a whole new idea of who the others are and what's going on with them. What if Arzt really is dead? Or at least, no longer himself. Danielle claims that there were six of them on her ship that got stranded on the island, but that she is the only one left. That the rest all got sick and I think she said that she had to kill them all.
What if the infection wasn't some little bacteria or virus, but more of a body-snatcher kind of illness. What if the Others are really her crew, or other people who've been stranded on the island at some time, who have been absorbed or taken over by some other influence, so that they are no longer themselves, but acting for the evil powers that be? Danielle may or may not have really killed her crewmates. Maybe Ethan was one of hers. She says she's never seen the Others, only heard them whispering to her in the jungle. So she wouldn't necessarily even realize that's what had happened to them.
This could mean that when Arzt ran away from the group, he encountered one or more of the Others and was killed and had his form borrowed, or was simply taken over. Arzt could be a mole now, leading the Others to the group, wherever they hide on the island.
The likelihood of this being anything close to the reality of the show is slim to none, I realize, but it is so fun to speculate. :D
Alright, back to work now. Those conference forms won't write themselves, more's the pity.

Date: 2005-05-19 11:02 am (UTC)I really hope it's some kind of virus or something, because I'd love to see some of the characters like Charlie go bad.
It was awfully odd of them to have Arzt come with them, the run off only to get chased. After all, nothing seems to be a coincidence on this show.
