We had an interesting adventure on Saturday night. My sister, P, and I had a hotel room and once we got settled in, we decided to walk to the Turkey Hill about a mile away, so that P could buy a powerball ticket. This seemed like an excellent plan until we were about half way there. It turns out we were walking along the highway, and there is no berm along the side of the road, so we were really right up against the road. Then it started to rain. Not just rain, but pour. And it was dark and cold, all of a sudden. We made it to the Turkey Hill, somehow. And then we decided to walk to our Mom's house which was closer and along a road that had sidewalks. We arrived there and begged, rather pathetically, for a ride back to the hotel. Both P and I were able to laugh about the experience and admitted that it was maybe not the smartest thing we could have done.

Today I'm in Reading, PA. My sister and I left mom's yesterday around lunch time and drove down to our brother's house, which is about a two hour drive (in the wrong direction). M wanted to take advantage of having a large number of siblings in one place and planned a picnic for yesterday afternoon.

It was a beautiful morning and a lovely drive down. Once everyone arrived (from Wilkes-Barre, Philadelphia and Harrisburg) we all got back in our respective cars and drove to a nearby park, which comes equiped with grills and tables. The park we ended up at, Grings Mill, is a place we used to go fairly often when we were little kids. It has a very nice wooded walking and biking trail along a pretty creek. Right around the time we arrived, big menacing clouds rolled in, thunder rumbled in the distance and drops of rain started dripping down. The park - which was very crowded - quickly cleared out and we had plenty of tables to choose from.

Blue skies conveniently returned very soon after and we had a wonderful time, eating burgers, playing the requisite wiffle ball, and lazing around. A young boy around 11 years old attached himself to us while we were playing wiffle ball (which I didn't suck at for once) and stuck around all afternoon. He told us his mom had gone for a long walk but apparently he just didn't want to play with his sisters, lol.

In the late afternoon, around 7ish, another thunderstorm rolled in and we packed up. After everyone else had headed back to their respective homes, those of us staying here for the night played a rousing game of Cranium. I hadn't ever played before and wasn't sure about the game but it was great fun. The highlights of the game were M trying to mimic Jar Jar Binks for his wife, P drawing a moat for me to guess at, and me trying to sculpt open-heart surgery for her.

Today we are making the last, and longest, leg of the trip. We are driving up to New Hampshire, which should be about a twelve hour drive. It's going to be a long day, but once we get there, there won't be any more driving for a while.
