Once again I'm getting my news through livejournal.

I just heard about the bombings in London and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone. What a horrible, terrible thing.

*hugs for everyone who needs one*

Hey meesh,
you heard the news before me. I turned on the radio in the car after my dentist appointment and new something out of the ordinary was going on because it wasn't the usual NPR show, but BBC.

If they think that Britain will retreat after one attack a la Spain, I'm certain they are mistaken.

I seem to have been rude enough with Gary since I got here that he hasn't bugged me for at least 30 minutes...of course he may have gone home for lunch, I'm too chicken to peek over there to see.

Hugs to you.

PS how's Mr P?

Mr. P seems fine. He's taking his afternoon nap.

What station is NPR? All I can find is that christian station and one country music station. Gah!

I got the news when I got to the office and turned on the computer. What a terrible tragedy. I guess it is one of those cases where we have to show as much love and support to the people immediately around us as we can. Here's a long distance hug to you.

*hugs you back*

This war just seems to have no end in sight. They attack us, we attack them, they attack us, etc. My heart bleeds for all those folks in England (and everyone else who has folks in England) for whom it has suddenly and horribly become very real and immediate.

I've been away from personal computing for several days - having taken almost a week off work with bronchitis, there has been too much work backlog to catch up with. I heard about the bombing in London as my morning wakeup call - some days it isn't the best thing to have the alarm set to NPR. At that point they were reporting 2 known fatalities and 30-40 people injured, and hadn't set aside normal programming to focus on it. My first thought was of a friend who had flown to Italy the previous day for a music competition. Then I wondered if T was in London on Sony business, and thought about the timing of the attack - if it had been 2 months ago, Tr. could have been riding the bus or subway.
I am trying to think of an appropriate act of defiance that I can make as my personal statement that terrorists will not force me to live in a state of terror. I don't think I'll be able to talk hubby into a trip to Europe as a political statement, any more than I could talk him into the Caribbean for a pleasure trip. But I feel the need to take a stand of some sort, even if nobody but me is aware of it. One thing I am not doing is watching the news 24/7 like I did after 9/11.

I think [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl is right about the British character - the folks who determined to carry on business as usual during the Blitz aren't going to be fazed by one attack. I certainly hope that is the case. I was very much opposed to this war, but now that we're in it, we're stuck with it, and pulling out will only give the terrorists more power. It will never end as long as one fanatical extremist remains alive. There will be no such thing as signing a peace accord and coming home, and every day we are over there, more fanatical extremists are forged. A classic lose-lose situation from the moment we got there. Where is a Beta-Zed peace negotiator when you need one? I'm sure that the good folks of Star Trek: TNG could sort this mess out in a heartbeat, and be able to be back about their business by the end of a 2-part episode at most.
