All the quilting for my Chiana vest is finally done! Well, nearly, at any rate. lyda_pearl bought a sewing machine this past week. The first half of the quilting took me three weeks. The second half took something like three hours, lol.

The only downside to it is that having done half of it by hand and half by machine, the stitches aren't uniform, and there are threads sticking out on the good side which I need to sew through to the back before I do anything else.

But it's pretty much all quilted! Yay! Now I need to work on the vest pattern again, and figure out how to piece quilted fabrics together.

I'm still totally befuddled over how to do the leggings. At the moment it seems that buying grey leggings and then using either yellow tape to make the stripes seems easiest, but I don't really like that idea. Sewing strips of yellow and grey fabric together and then cutting and piecing to make leggings is one idea, but that is a LOT of work and I'm not really sure I'm up for all that.

Plus I still have to make the hat and the gloves, but the costume is really coming along. I just have to keep my eye on the goal. 55 more days until Dragon*con and this and the Pippin costume will both be ready by then, I'm sure.

I had some weird dreams last night, but the main one was that it was suddenly time to head to the airport to fly to Pittsburgh. My plan is to mail the costuming stuff ahead of time so I don't have to worry about it getting misdirected on the plane, but in the dream, the day of departure came upon me very suddenly and I hadn't got anything in the mail, so I was heading out to the airport with all my costuming stuff, and it was very stressful.

I really want to travel as lightly as possible when it's time to go, because I'm taking a bus to Manchester and then will have to find transportation from the bus station to the airport, and then I change planes in Philadelphia. There are all sorts of ways that I could lose my luggage, not to mention that it would be rather heavy to be lugging all over Manchester if I end up having to walk any distance.

Right, I'm going to go make my lazy sister some coffee and then wake her up so that she can supervise my drive to the library. :D

Sounds like you've put a great deal of work into your costume. I can't sew a thing so naturally, I am impressed.
In my,when I get to where ever it is that I am going the date has been changed and I have come too early or arrived too late. Dreams! But then I could actually do that sort of thing in RL. LOL

I have put a lot of work into the costume, and there is still a lot to do. Back before I started my first costume (PK Aeryn) I was pretty much convinced that I couldn't possibly sew anything and since then I've just gone ahead and done it anyway. I know nothing about sewing and I'm probably doing all sorts of things wrong, but the costumes get made, so I don't worry about it too much. :D

I'll be sure to post pictures. The Pippin costume isn't going to be nearly as elaborate as the Chiana costume, unfortunately, because I'm just flat out running out of time and money, but it will be decent and hopefully recognizable anyway. I have pants that can pass as hobbit breeches at a pinch, I'm keeping my eyes open at thrift stores and flea market type places for a nice shirt, but I'm going to make his vest, so that's the one thing I really need to get on with. :D

True. I don't imagine Chiana has enough patience for little fiddly things to really sit down and take the time to make her stitches neat and tidy, so if my quilting is a little homemade looking, all the better, lol.

You should have some time if you want to do laundry at our place in Pittsburgh, to lessen the amount of bags/stuff you want to bring...

That will be great. My plan is to travel as light as possible, aside from the costuming stuff. I don't think I'll need a ton of clothing or other random items.
