I was spared from total laziness today by a massive grass-cutting effort. [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl and Mr. P have a lot of grass. There's a fenced in area for the dogs to run about in, there's a strip along the street, a section beside the house and then a fairly large portion behind the house which goes all the way down to the river. Technically, the part behind the dog's yard is a city park, but the city doesn't tend it, so P and Mr. P take care of the part behind their house.

I didn't get it all done today, because I really am basically just lazy, but I got the dogs' yard, the front and the side done. The back can wait until some time over the weekend.

I'm now gearing myself up to make my first solo trip in the Subaru. I have to go return some books to the Library and a movie to the video store. It's silly to be nervous, because I've driven there before, but never by myself and I particularly don't like the parking lot at the video store. Right, enough procrastination. Time to go.

EditWell, the thing about facing your fears is that it makes you feel...afraid. Yes, I managed to survive my trip to the video store without any ill adventures, but it was a bit nerve-wracking. I'm a little jellyfish at heart and I quiver at the slightest provocation, so I'm still quivering a bit, lol. I will get used to this whole driving thing eventually, I'm sure. Hopefully long before dying of ripe old age.

I think nothing of getting in the car to go anywhere at all, even sea to sea. But, when AM took the car alone to return the movie, that mother hen mode kicked in! She was gone all of 30 minutes but I was anxious the whole time. I trust Meeshes driving fine, she had an excellent instructor after all. Still....
Home safe and sound like an old pro.
peace, love and seat belts,
LP

It's good to have a mother hen around sometimes...it lets you know you're loved.

*hugs*

She had a couple of good instructors, actually. One recent and one at various points in the distant past!

Getting ready to move away from Austin has made me wonder how I managed to get in the car and drive away from Meesh in Pgh. I'm glad I don't have any goodbyes like that one this time!

Go you! Driving gets easier as certain actions become automatic. But remember to always keep a safe "cushion" of space between you and the driver in front of you. People can be crazy!

My sister has to take a defensive driving course every year for her job, so our driving sessions always included an emphasis on allowing a safe following distance and other things like that. I always get nervous when I'm in a car with someone who zooms up right behind the car in front and then has to stop hard in order to not ram them. I certainly don't want to be the person doing that!

Yay! Good for you :) With the facing of the fear.

It gets easier, really.

That's what I'm hoping. At first I hated driving even with my sister, and just this past week I started enjoying it a bit more, so I'm sure that in a few weeks, once I've been driving around by myself more, I'll feel more comfortable with that too. :D

Congratulations on your first solo flight! Er, drive! And you have a Subaru?! What's it's name??? :P Mine is Samwise the Subaru.

I haven't come up with a good name for the Subaru, yet. It's a red Forester and nothing has jumped out at me. My sister also has a Geo Metro and I call that one Pippin, cuz it's small, green and stubborn, lol. I haven't told my sister that yet, though. She doesn't understand these things; she and her husband are content with calling it the micro car.

I'm sure everyone is nervous their first time out.

I'm sure it's a natural self-preservation sort of thing. :)
