I was out of the house pretty much all day and the poor girls were cooped up inside the whole time. When I got home we had to go outside and run with sticks for a while. I felt especially bad for Sunny, who spent the better part of the day in her cage, poor thing. That's because she pees all over the furniture otherwise (and she did pee in the cage at some point during the five hours I was gone), but still, I felt really bad for her. She loves running with sticks though and now she's a happy girl again. *bg*

[livejournal.com profile] whtmtnwmn and I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this afternoon. I'm not very good at the movie reviews so I'll leave the deep, insightful stuff to someone else. Let me just say that I loved it! We were both laughing so hard we could barely breathe at times. I thought this adaptation hit a little closer to the book than the Gene Wilder version and it wasn't quite as dark, oddly enough for a Tim Burton film. I'm sure you all know by know that I absolutely love Johnny Depp and he was terrific in this movie. I was a little creeped out by the Michael Jackson look-a-like quality at the beginning, but through the course of the movie I forgot all about it.

Freddie Highmore seemed ready made to play the part of Charlie Bucket, from his skinny pallor to his shy yet excited smile. I thought he did a wonderful job in Finding Neverland and he was just as good here.

But I think it's only fair to admit that my favorite thing of all was the Oompa Loompas. All 165 of them were played by the same man, Deep Roy. It was hysterical. The songs were straight from Roald Dahl and the dances were a riot! He played the roles completely straight but every time an Oompa Loompa came on the screen it was time to take a deep breath because the laughs were coming.

I had heard that Christopher Lee was in the movie and then forgot all about it until the movie started and his name came up in the opening credits. Helena Bonham Carter was also in the movie, as Charlie's mom. She, Christopher Lee, Deep Roy and Johnny Depp are all in another Tim Burton movie, Corpse Bride, an animated movie much like The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is due out towards the end of September. Random trivia; did you know that Christopher Lee was also in Sleepy Hollow, another Tim Burton movie with Johnny Depp? I saw that when it was in the theaters and really liked it but never realized Christopher Lee was in it. That man gets around!

I'm so curious about that movie, but I'm still not sure when it will be out 'round here. I'm sure I won't miss it though, since my friend likes Jonny Depp a lot so she will probably drag me along :)

Hope you don't mind I friended you. I found myself clicking on your journal rather often.

You're in Austria, right? I think it's due to be released there on August 12.

I'm always happy to have new friends. :)

I saw this movie this weekend, too, and liked the oompa-loompa songs and dances better than the old ones in terms of their songs/choreography. The old ones are still more stuck in my brain, though, and retain their disturbing quality that has creeped me out many times over the years.

(oompa-loompa, doompety-do; I've got another riddle for you...)
