I had an early morning call from the director of the daycare center I'm going to be working at starting the middle of August. I had left a message for her telling her that I would be out of town for several days because of Dragon*con (I really, honestly forgot during the interview, my bad). This was a big problem for her because the days I'm out of town are the first days of school and it's a crazy time.

So. We managed a compromise that will work for everyone. I'm still flying to Pittsburgh on August 30th and road tripping with eve11, but I'll have to fly directly home from Atlanta on September 5. So it's not ideal but it's not as bad as it could be. I still get to go to Dragon*con and do all the things I was planning to do. I just get fewer extra days in Pittsburgh. Fair enough, I suppose, if a bit disappointing.

I'm glad to hear that you worked out a compromise that the daycare could accept without having to give up any of Dragon*Con. Hopefully you'll be able to swing a longer trip to Pbg another time.

It would be nice to be able to make a longer visit to Pgh, but now that I've started work, it will probably be next summer before I get a chance to take any sort of vacation again.

Oh, I'm so glad she was willing to work with you to find a compromise! It means more than just you getting to carry on your plans--it means that your future boss is not a totally unreasonable or inflexible person, and bodes well for when you start to work.

I really like the director, and the other woman I interviewed with. They are very friendly and open women. I'm just hoping the fact that I forgot to tell them this fairly crucial information at the interview doesn't leave to large a black mark next to my name. :-\

*Whew!* I was worried when I first started reading your post. So relieved that you WILL get to do D*C after all. I've put in my request today for Sept. 2nd as a vacation day. I plan to put the boys on the schoolbus early that morning and then take the train downtown to play all day, but will have to come back home early that evening (unless I can work something else out for the lads). But Saturday morning I plan to be there early to plant myself for the rest of the weekend - well, until Sunday afternoon anyway. So we get to HANG OUT TOGETHA on Friday and most of Saturday and Saturday NIGHT - watch out! Yeehaaaa!

I was worried too, when I talked to her this morning, but I've managed to work it all out one way or another. I'm going to be desperately poor for a while, thanks to the extra plane ticket, but it will be worth it to get to Dragon*con and hang out TOGETHA! :D

Unfortunately, I'm afraid so. :( I have to be at work on September 6. I was really trying to make a side trip to NY work, but it just isn't going to happen. Hopefully there will be another hobbit moot somewhere along the line that we can both attend. :D

Let me know if you want to get together over the next few days...I'm now on vacation, and don't have anywhere I have to be! Yay! Except for sleeping in, I've got no plans. Any decent movies to see?

I'd be happy to do a walk with Ben and Shadow, if we could do it fairly early in the day - I have to be at work at four tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I'll have to work all day Saturday but with a little luck I might be off on Friday. I still want to see War of the Worlds, although I don't know if you have any interest in that. :D
