We have a new kitty living with us now.

[livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl and Mr. P returned from their vacation yesterday and they brought our younger brother's cat with them. Thor is about thirteen years old and he and Tookie lived together for nearly eleven of those years, so I thought they would get along together better than if we were introducing a strange cat. My brother has finally (at the age of thirty) found an apartment for himself and is getting ready to move, but he couldn't afford to pay an extra amount each month to have a pet, so he had to get rid of Thor. He was very afraid he would half to put the cat to sleep, as he's so old and not the most social beast ever. We couldn't let that happen, though, so we've adopted him.

It may take a little while for Tookie to forgive me. She was so utterly pissed off last night, she didn't even eat. She sat on my bed hissing and growling low in her throat every time Thor came anywhere near our room. Poor guy, his food's in here but he may never get a chance to eat it. I'll give him credit though, he's pretty unimpressed with Tookie's histrionics. He came in the room, sniffed around for a while, jumped up on the bed (really setting Tookie off) and sat in the open window for the longest time. Once he went out of the room, though, he found it hard to come back in. Every time he poked his head in the door, Tookie would start up again, and Thor would decide to go explore somewhere else.

I've no idea where he is now, but I'm assuming he's gone into hiding for the day, and that he'll reappear this evening. I'm hoping that he will eat something at some point, because apparently he hasn't eaten much of anything in the last three days, since Lyda Pearl picked him up.

I've worked a whole week at the coffeehouse now. It seems to be a good job. I'm slowly learning how to make all the drinks. I'm still woefully slow at them, especially the espresso based drinks like Lattes and Cappucinos. They are hard to make *right* and I haven't had much practice yet. And yesterday was the first time I made the attempt to do steamed or foamed milk, but that wasn't too, too hard. I have two days off in a row (which might never happen again), so I'm free for the whole weekend. I was expecting to work today, but they gave me a break. They're the best! So I can spend the next few days playing with the kitties, working on my costumes, maybe even *gasp* write something! Life is good.

Life is indeed good sometimes.

Cats are extremely territorial.

Unfortunately, I think Thor may have decided to try the Homeward Bound thing. We haven't seen him in a day and a half now. :(

Ah, the social lives of cats. They do hate new-comers. Maybe once Tookie has had her say about it all and some time to adjust, she will welcome Thor. Also, I imagine Thor is missing his owner. They get attached even it they don't show it in the way that dogs do. You may be in for an interesting few weeks while they sort out the territory.

I am very sadly thinking that Thor has gone off in an attempt to find his owner. We haven't seen him since early yesterday morning, and the door was open for a good part of the day. :(

Oh I do hope they sort it out soon. Having just gone through the trauma myself, I do sympathise. *hugs*

Well, we're very worried now, because no one has seen any sign of Thor all day. We thought he was just hiding somewhere during the day, as he'd done for the several days that my sister and her husband were traveling and visiting other folks, but he hasn't surfaced and we've looked everywhere we can think of. The front door was open most of the day so the dogs could come and go and we're afraid Thor took off at some point early this morning. If that's the case, he probably won't be back, this not being anything he considers home. I'm hoping we're wrong, though, that he's just found an extra good hiding space and he'll show up eventually.

Please tell me you contacted all the nearby animal shelters! Or better yet, that he has turned up by now! I tried so hard to persuade hubby that it would be okay for us to take him -with no luck - and I may never forgive him if Thor-zle has now gone and got himself lost forever.

As far as I can tell there is no animal shelter around here. But we're hoping he's just hidden deep in a corner of the basement and we're going to give him a few days to get used to things. Don't say anything to J that would prematurely worry him, please.
