The theatre

I went to a play tonight, with [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl and [livejournal.com profile] whtmtnwmn. We saw Aida at the Weathervane Theater. The theater is located in a big (biggish anyway) red barn near Whitefield, NH, but the actors are mostly professionals. It was a fun night, watching beautiful people sing and act. There were some high moments, but for the most part the acting was not as good as you might expect for professional actors, with terrible choreography and one of the main actresses stumbling over her lines and failing to hit a crucial note in her final song. But I only nitpick because it makes me feel better for not being able to sing or act at all, to save my life, lol. Really, we all had a very good time.

The actors all lined up outside the door to greet everyone as we left, and my sister and I went through the line, but [livejournal.com profile] whtmtnwmn fled in a fluster at the prospect of speaking to the gorgeous lead actor, lol. It seems that said lead actor might be a bit bashful in reality. The costume he ended in included an open shirt and he kept pulling it closed while standing in the receiving line. I also got the sense that he wasn't entirely committing himself to the role, during the play. It felt like he was holding back a bit at times. Still, I'm going to keep my eyes out for him. According to the cast bios, he has done some commercials for the Sci Fi channel, and it would be interesting to see one of them.

Well, I was supposed to be putting the finishing touches to my challenge 19 story tonight, but it's already almost 12:30, so I think I'll just go to bed, instead. I'll finish it up in the morning.

*goodnight world*

The play sounds like fun. We have local theater here. Nothing professional, but some of them are very good. It's all outdoors though and the bugs are murder. Takes away from the performance a bit. One year they did "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and I was quite impressed with them.
I turned in my challenge story, which I am quite sure was full of errors that most Beta's would be sickened by because I waited until the last minute to write the ending of it after having the beginning for almost three full weeks now. I'm far too lazy to be allowed to write in these things.

I'm the same way. Despite having four weeks to come up with something, I'm invariably working on it at the last minute. I got my challenge story turned in, late last night. Oh well, it was still before [livejournal.com profile] marigoldg posted the announcement, so I guess it wasn't technically late, lol. :D

I was not "in a fluster"--it was late and I wanted to get home! ;)

Despite the problems with the play, it was still very enjoyable. Most of the singing was well done (even if the band was too loud). I'll give it a thumbs up!

Apart from the defects you mentioned, how did you like Aida? When I went to see it in New York I thought it was amazing! I couldn't get it out of my system for weeks. I dreamed versions of the story over and over again, but never could make it come out happy. Who played Radames in your production? I'll look out for him.

Of course, the whole "first time in NY" thing, plus getting to go backstage after and meet the cast probably had something to do with how overpowering the experience was.

I liked the show. The story itself hasn't really captured my mind in the way you describe, but it's a good 'boy meets girl, boy and girl fight, boy and girl fall in love, boy and girl die' story. The actor who played Radames was Barrett Hall. His bio said he'd done some commercials for Sci Fi channel but it didn't say when, so they may have been a couple of years ago.
