A Hobbit's tale - a picspam fic

I apologize in advance for the size and quality of some of these pictures. I can't resize and some of them turned out huge and grainy.

A Hobbit's tale

Once upon a time there was a brave and adventurous young hobbit named Peregrin Took, also known as Pippin.


Pippin was out traveling in the wide world one day when he met a new friend, Pennock the Scarran.


Pippin and Pennock quickly became the best of friends, hanging out together all the time.


They spent a lot of time at pubs and inns, talking about home and friends


and getting drunk together.


But then one day, Pippin found Pennock engaged in suspicious activities with someone else.


He confronted Pennock, questioning his friend's behavior, but in an unexpected move, Pennock turned on Pippin, punishing him for his audacity with a Scarran Heat Ray.


Pippin, understanding that Pennock wasn't truly his friend and was, indeed, a minion of great evil, perhaps a servant of Sauron himself, was forced to slay the Scarran.


Once again, Pippin found himself wandering the wide world alone, looking for friends and adventure. Next time, he told himself, he'd make sure to bring Merry along on his adventures. Traveling was always more fun with two.


I'll get my con report for day three up this weekend, and then we'll be done, other than a few more photos to share. :)

Turns out Pennock is quite the ladies Scarren, lol. Not only did Gigi give him a smooch, but at least one other woman was tonguing him as well. ;P

Yes, Pippin really was quite brave, I think, facing such a monster. I think Scarrans might actually be distant cousins of the hill troll that Pippin killed outside the Black Gate.

That was wonderful! The Pippin costume turned out great and I love this story in pictures. I can't get over all the beautiful costumes at this thing. I love seeing the pictures. Thanks for posting this!

Your Pippin costume looks terrific! I especially love the vest, and you look so hobbity next to that Scarran - was he on stilts or just amazingly tall?

"He" is my good friend eve11 who is a 5'2" woman on 18 in. painter's stilts with a rig to hold the Scarran head above her own. It was quite a massive getup.

I have to admit, I was feeling pretty hobbity next to her. I've never had to crane my neck so much to talk to anyone, lol.

Whereas I was like, "Wow! Tall people really can see over everyone's heads in the crowd! This rocks!" I was about 6'8" on the stilts. One of my school colleagues is about 6'8" and it's weird to think that's his vantage point all the time :)

LOL! Oh, that was great! I wish I'd been able to see all that, it looks sooooo coool! Was the toasting at the Scarran/Klingon party? You did a lovely job on your costume, much, much better than my Merry would have been. So now I know the standards I'll need to meet if - when! - we finally DO get to pair up at a Con for a decent amount of time! Looks like you had a great time, and I'm so glad. You'll always have good memories of my town. :-)

I will certainly always have fond memories of Atlanta now. And we really need to find a con where we can stage the Merry and Pippin show! No one really noticed me at all in the hobbit costume, but it would certainly be a bit more of an attention getter, especially if we had the firework and everything, and then came back later with the ashes and soot all over us. :) I don't think I'll be able to do Chatanooga, but it will happen sometime. :D

I hope we can do it. You know what they say about third time being the charm? Maybe next year (which would be my third chance). Next year just HAS to be better! I won't hear of anything else. :-)

Thank you. Eve certainly did a fantastic job with her Scarran; it was a labor of love for her, I think. Now I have to start thinking about what to do for next year, lol.
