well, it's sort of a Sam drabble. He's in it, at any rate. Written for
rabidsamfan. It took me longer than I'd hoped to find the time to return to this, but here it is.
Sam stood in the kitchen doorway, looking in satsifaction at his handiwork. A fire crackled in the large hearth, with a kettle of water ready on a hook to one side. In a wooden bowl on the table, fresh fruit was waiting to be eaten, while the pantry and cellar were fully stocked with every item that might be needed. Everything was ready.
Later, as the sun was setting, the door to the cozy little smial opened and the new owners stared in wonder at their new home.
"Welcome home, Mrs. Cotton," Tom said, turning to his bride, "Welcome home."
