It's been a lovely weekend. I talked with Coffee Shop Boss and Wife yesterday and feel much better about things. They are being very positive and supportive about my decision to quit. Plus, new guy is taking most of my days right away, so I'm only going to be working Tuesday and Saturday for the next two weeks. :)

As planned, today was Pumpkin Acquisition Day. By noon it had settled into rain, but as we drove up into Milan there was snow on the upper third of nearly all the mountains. So pretty, with the colored leaves below, even though it was rainy and a bit dreary otherwise. The place we went to buy the pumpkins had been pretty well picked over so instead of getting a whole bunch, we only got two, and we didn't get the hay bale I wanted, but I'm happy with the two that we got. CG and I spent the rest of the afternoon gutting and carving them, then roasted the seeds.

He left all the creative planning up to me, unfortunately, so there is one very standard looking jack-o-lantern face which he carved. I decided to get a little bolder with the one I was carving and made mine into the Eye of Sauron. It isn't quite done yet - a lot of it is silhouette and the pumpkin walls need to be thinned a lot more before the candle light will shine through, but the general effect is there. I will try to remember to take a picture or two of it.

We also watched a couple episodes from the first season of Family Guy, so in all, it was a very nice day.

Ooh, I can just imagine your pumpkin. You are so creative; I can barely manage a standard jack-o-lantern. You must show us pics when you get them. Glad you had such a good day. Ah, Fall! I do so love this time of year. :-)

Well, as always, I'm not entirely thrilled with the way I drew the picture onto the pumpkin to use as a pattern. I never got around to finding a good image I could print out and use as a guide, and I didn't even get around to putting the dvd on to get a visual reference, so the pattern was drawn completely free-hand from memory. Never a good thing, lol. It will do though, if I can ever get the shell of the pumpkin thin enough that the candle light shines through. :)

And there will definitely be pictures, I promise.

We have a whole container of roasted pumpkin seeds, if you'd like some. While I don't mind munching on a few now and then, I'm not a big fan so I certainly won't be eating them all by myself.

I'd love some! I've been way too lazy so far this fall to carve a pumpkin, scoop the goop, wash the seeds, and finally roast the seeds. The ones in the stores are just too salty.
Thanks for being a good sharer!

Sounds like a very cool pumpkin when it's all done. I'm very envious!

From the girl who wimped out and bought a pattern kit, but was too lazy to get around to using it!

Despite your protestations that your pumpkin carving is not that creative or skilled - I'm still impressed. Anyone who can buy pumpkins, gut them, carve them AND roast the seeds all in one day and still have time to watch TV is more on the ball than I am! My pumpkins are still sitting on my porch in their unadulterated form. Hopefully sometime between now and Monday I will get around to carving the big one and buying some tea candles to put inside. Until recently I thought I actually had some candles, but then realized that they were on the list of things that were prohibited in the moving truck. Oh well - gives me a chance to buy something new! Fortunately, I've finally found my 10-cup coffee maker, so I won't have to buy a new one of those if I ever have guests and need to make more than one cup at a time.
