What is it with Nigerian millionares? They seem to be dying in droves (all in automobile accidents), and not a single one of them has any dependents or a will.

My spam blocker seems to be ailing. I've won so many lotteries, been contacted by five or six Nigerian bankers on behalf of their dead millionare clients, even been contacted by a business woman who claims she can't work with U.S. postal orders and would I please help her out for a small fee! All of this withing the last month, with nothing of the sort in the entire year before that. Is it a seasonal thing. Are these people hoping that I'll be desperate enough for money around the holidays that I'll do something stupid?

Whatever the reason, it's been very amusing. For one thing, all these bankers and business people, including the native English speakers, have the worst grammar and spelling I've seen outside a bad Mary Sue story. Maybe they're actually written by thirteen-year-old girls? Plus, they're getting quite creative in their explanations for why this money is coming my way (except for the Nigerians; they've got one story and they're sticking with it). And they all ask that I keep things very hush hush and confidential until I've actually got my money, so that none of my unscrupulous friends steal it from me.

Too funny!

At least you get money offered.

My spam-mailers only offer me cheap software. But you're right, at the moment there are so many spam mails. I usually don't have a problem with them but nowadays I have at least one spam message in my inbox whenever I go online. *grumbles*

In a way I prefer the stupid penis enlargement spams, because they don't have anything in them that is tempting, but the money offers, while I know they are bogus, still make me wish there was some truth to them.

I check the email coming in for my job. We theoretically have a spam filter that puts things it thinks are spam in "quarantine." Obviously, though, spam filters are slow learners. It continues -- after about a year -- to put things that *are* relevant emails in quarantine, just because the subject frequently includes the word "free," and it lets through the viagra/penis enlargement/married people looking for action stuff. I never get any offers for money, though. :(

But I do enjoy some of the forwards it lets through -- the best one was a series of pictures of "what your pets do all day when you're not home."

And, you may be on to something with the 13-year-old girl theory. Maybe this is what 13-year-old boys write instead of Mary Sues?

At least yahoo doesn't usually put any of my valid email into my junk folder. I don't check it as often as I should (ie: never) because when I did check it, there was never anything that I needed in it (except for one time when my sister got put on the spam list somehow).

You may be right about those thirteen year old boys. They need something to occupy their time.

My spam blocker seems to get about 95% of the spam, and about 1% of my legitimate email. I check the trap at least once a day to see if anything legitimate is caught in it. But I've been having very interesting spam come throough: Amazon supposedly wants my credit card number because there is a "problem with my account" (don't have and never have had an Amazon account) So does PayPal, and ditto. And apparently the CIA and FBI want to inform me that I have logged in to "illegal websites". I rarely get the Nigerians anymore, but one did slip through recently. And after my sister forwarded one of those "cute" little chain letters (you know: "if you are really a good friend you will forward this good luck to ten other poor victims good friends") with a bazillion other people's addresses attached I got hit with several hundred possible viruses for a few days. Fortunately I always delete anything that I don't recognize, and almost all of them were caught in the trap. They were easy to spot because they were supposedly coming from my ISP, but they weren't. And they went away after about a week.

I haven't received anything from the CIA or FBI and I've been pretty lucky about not getting things from Amazon or PayPal about credit card numbers, etc, but the other thing I get a lot is women that seem to be trying to hook up with me. It's bizarre. The emails seem to be women responding to my profile or something, but I'm guessing if I were to try to reply to one of the emails it would probably be a virus of some kind. Weird!

"Auntiemeesh" does make you sound like someone a lot of hot young women would want to hook up with.

Well, and a lot of the emails go something like this, "hey dude! check out this hot new website I've found, where people are meeting for sex! www (.) hotsexysingles (.) com. It's annoying, but funny at the same time.

This is a public service announcement.

With all the spam you might have missed my PippinHealers post...

...which is to say, "You're 'it'!"

(Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! I do love your way with words--as I think I've told you. If I haven't, well, I just did.)

(too tired to make much sense)

G'night.

Thanks for the reminder! I did see your post, and loved your addition to the story. I'm toying around with sleeping powders and such at the moment. That's one of my main tasks for the weekend, to get my part done. :)

OK. I confess. I've just be waiting for you to get your Nigerian millions (or is it billions?) so that I could find a way to swipe it from you and support myself and my pets in style - nya ha ha!

With respect to the single Nigerian story - well, remember "My father and I are from Nigeria and you are not! So goodbye!" Those Nigerians, even the ones who are older than 3 years, are just more special than the rest of us! They don't need to have more than one story.

Those Nigerians! I think of those kids every time I get one of these emails. Their mom may have been an A1 bitch, but they were adorable kids!

They were cute - hard to believe that they must be teenagers by now. I'm glad you are able to enjoy your memories of them, despite your unhappy memories of the job itself.
