Dec. 15th, 2005 08:46 amWhat is it with Nigerian millionares? They seem to be dying in droves (all in automobile accidents), and not a single one of them has any dependents or a will.
My spam blocker seems to be ailing. I've won so many lotteries, been contacted by five or six Nigerian bankers on behalf of their dead millionare clients, even been contacted by a business woman who claims she can't work with U.S. postal orders and would I please help her out for a small fee! All of this withing the last month, with nothing of the sort in the entire year before that. Is it a seasonal thing. Are these people hoping that I'll be desperate enough for money around the holidays that I'll do something stupid?
Whatever the reason, it's been very amusing. For one thing, all these bankers and business people, including the native English speakers, have the worst grammar and spelling I've seen outside a bad Mary Sue story. Maybe they're actually written by thirteen-year-old girls? Plus, they're getting quite creative in their explanations for why this money is coming my way (except for the Nigerians; they've got one story and they're sticking with it). And they all ask that I keep things very hush hush and confidential until I've actually got my money, so that none of my unscrupulous friends steal it from me.
Too funny!

Date: 2005-12-15 06:00 am (UTC)At least you get money offered.
My spam-mailers only offer me cheap software. But you're right, at the moment there are so many spam mails. I usually don't have a problem with them but nowadays I have at least one spam message in my inbox whenever I go online. *grumbles*

Date: 2005-12-15 07:45 am (UTC)But I do enjoy some of the forwards it lets through -- the best one was a series of pictures of "what your pets do all day when you're not home."
And, you may be on to something with the 13-year-old girl theory. Maybe this is what 13-year-old boys write instead of Mary Sues?

Date: 2005-12-15 07:58 am (UTC)poor victimsgood friends") with a bazillion other people's addresses attached I got hit with several hundred possible viruses for a few days. Fortunately I always delete anything that I don't recognize, and almost all of them were caught in the trap. They were easy to spot because they were supposedly coming from my ISP, but they weren't. And they went away after about a week.no subject

...which is to say, "You're 'it'!"
(Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! I do love your way with words--as I think I've told you. If I haven't, well, I just did.)
(too tired to make much sense)
G'night.

Date: 2005-12-16 11:44 am (UTC)With respect to the single Nigerian story - well, remember "My father and I are from Nigeria and you are not! So goodbye!" Those Nigerians, even the ones who are older than 3 years, are just more special than the rest of us! They don't need to have more than one story.
