I've posted the this week's challenge for the [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_ficathon.

Hi everybody! I have what I think could be an interesting challenge for this weekend. ansothehobbit made an observation in her lj today that we, as hobbit writers, tend to unconsciously categorize our hobbits. Frodo is angsty, Sam is in awe of gentlefolk, Merry and Pippin are pranksters, and Pippin is slightly clueless.

This isn't every writer, every time, but I think it's a valid observation. So the challenge for this week is to turn things around a bit. Write a story that turns the 'traditional' roles of the hobbits upside down. Whether it's Sam as the prankster, Frodo as an in-over-his-head-youngster, or an unusual pairing of hobbits. Look at how you usually write them, and go a bit sideways from there.

Have fun!

This is the first month I didn't get a story written for the Marigold Challenge. It feels a little weird. I'm a bit disappointed in myself but I've found that I don't really get inspired very often by other people's plot bunnies. I picked out two that I thought would be good, but couldn't go anywhere with them. Maybe it was just that I've been so stressed out at work that I couldn't focus as much on writing - I certainly haven't been getting 'Courage' out in anything like a timely fashion these days, and I didn't even do the [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_ficathon challenge last week. Although I will make a point of doing it this week. Work was much better this week so maybe things are settling down a bit and I will be able to do more than spam my flist with pointless memes, lol.

Hurray, pointless memes (nothing beats them)

I might just have to join this Hobbit Ficathon challenge. Is it the one where you've only got two days to write something though, I think that scared me into submission induced second thoughts before. Still this challenge looks positively sqeefull.

Yes, please do join. Don't be intimidated by the fact that you only have the weekend to write something. Everybody's stuff is unbetaed so no one is going to worry if it's a bit rough around the edges. But you don't have to join in order to post a response to the challenge, the community is open to non-members. :)
