A good weekend

It was a good day, today. I spent about five hours studying for the GREs (less than a week to go and I'm not going to make it through everything I wanted to cover), saw King Kong (loved it, even if it could have been a little bit shorter) and drove the 'Roo (stick shift) all the way to Bethel, ME (about an hour). So, even though it's a little bumpy still at intersections and whatnot, I can officially drive a car with standard transmission, now! This is very good, because we've got a three-thousand mile (round) trip coming up in a week, and I'll be able to do my share of the driving.

I've never had any desire to learn, but it was necessary, and it's not as hard as I thought it would be.

Fortunately, once you get on the interstate, you can pretty much go for 1000s of miles without having to shift. Until you come into the inevitable holiday back-ups, of course.

It's just getting on the interstate that I'm a little worried about. You have to be able to get up to speed quickly if there's traffic, and that involves going from stopped to moving (which still takes me a little while) and then shifting up three or four gears within a few seconds. Yipes!
