I just can't resist playing around with the layout here. I've upgraded to a paid account and now I have so many more options! I'm eager to spend the next few days playing with the look of my journal until I get it just right.

A question for [livejournal.com profile] grey_wonderer. How did you do your background so that your journal scrolls and the picture stays in one place. I would prefer that to having the picture scroll as well, but I can't figure out how to do it.

I love your new background!

Sorry for butting in, but I just spent the last couple of days playing with my LJ too, and wanted to do the same thing. Whether you can get the background to scroll or not depends on the style you're using - it turns out that if you want to use 'generator' style and have a non-scrolling background, you need to use the old system, S1, because you can't do it on S2. I found S1 mega-complicated, so it's easier if you just use another style! I think then you just choose the option on the 'customise' page that says something about background image scrolling and you can choose 'yes' or 'no' - something like that.

But if you like 'generator' best, let me know and I'll give you the override codes that [livejournal.com profile] slightlytookish gave me :)

I was over at your LJ checking out your new look when I got the message from you. I saw that your background image was locked as well. I'm going to play around with it a bit and see what I can come up with but if I can't figure it out, I'll come back asking for the override codes, lol.

I love this background as well. I took this picture on my vacation and have been playing around with it ever since. The only problem is that I have to rename my journal now, cause The Parlor doesn't go very well with a pic of the woods, lol.

Okay, I've played around for a few minutes. Long enough to realize I prefer the generator style and so I think I'm going to need the override codes to lock the background pic in place and also, if you have the code for it, to move the dialogue boxes to one side.

It's never easy. Why is it never easy?

Lol, it's really lovely. Definitely worth changing everything else around for!

Actually, the easiest thing to do if you go with S1 is to check out: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=97, which tells you how to put in a background image and fix it.

Just now read all of this and it seems that you have very knowledgable help on this scrolling issue. Everything that I did to my journal I managed to do my trial and error. I have no clue how any of it works. I just kept playing with it until it did what I wanted. I do remember the scroll lock setting though and it was simply a choice between the two. Either I wanted it to scroll or I didn't. I tried it both ways and decided I like the picture on the background to be locked in place. I only decide this because it seemed to scroll in some of the oddest ways and ofter a post would wind up between scrolls and I didn't like the line at the end of the background when it started over again. I was reading all of this and I realized that I have no idea if I am using s1 or s2! That is how limited my knowledge of all of this is. I am glad that you have someone helping you who knows what is what. Good luck with your modifications! I look forward to seeing what you decide to do.
