So apparently if I want to see Brokeback Mountain, which I do, I have to go either to Portland, Maine (about 2 hrs away), Boston (3 hrs) or head downstate to Concord or Manchester (between 2 1/2 and 3 hrs). It just seems ridiculous to have to spend more time in the car getting there than the actual length of the movie, so I guess I'll be waiting until it's out on DVD. Bummer.

The mountains aren't going to be the same on a tv set.

Go see the movie and treat yourself to a really good dinner too, just to make the trip worth while.

Nothing is the same on my itty bitty little tv set. I'll have to see if I can manage a trip. I haven't ever driven even close to that far on my own, those cities are all extremely unfamiliar to me and nearly all of my driving has been very rural, so the thought of attempting to make the trip on my own is pretty frightening. I suppose I'll have to get over that fright someday, but I'm not sure I'm ready for it this week, lol.

Well if you pick Boston, you can come down to one of the commuter rail stations and go by rail the rest of the way. That saves the city driving anyway.

www.mbta.com has the maps and schedules and stuff.

I'm not up to seeing the movie (for the sadness factor -- I'd probably break) but I could probably meet you for dinner or something if you came on a weekend.

That sounds like the best plan. If I gear myself up for a trip, I'll let you know and see if we can arrange something. :)

I sympathize. I'd like to see it to, but I would probably have to go to Memphis to do so. Of course, Memphis is not as far as any of the distances you mentioned - but it seems like it's a world away!

It's not showing at the cineplex in Oxford (or wherever we went to see The Family Stone)?

Nope - it isn't showing now and I have seen any mention of it through the fall. I think Oxford may be a somewhat too conservative town for it, university or no university.

It's not playing down here, either, and with only two theaters open on the coast, not likely to be anytime soon. I will also have to wait for DVD. I suppose if any place would show it down here it might be New Orleans, if there are any theaters open over there. But I wouldn't go over there *before* Katrina, and I surely won't now.

Yeah, I would imagine theaters aren't as high a priority as homes, schools, hospitals, etc.

I really hope you decide to do it, even if you have to endure such a long drive -- because it won't be the same if you see it on a smaller set (having just seen it and all).

I'm giving it serious thought. I may go in to Boston one of these weekends, meet up with [livejournal.com profile] rabidsamfan and get something to eat. I'd have to see the movie alone, as she doesn't want to see it, but it could be fun.

By the way, I don't know if you saw it, but I wrote a little pseudo-slash for you the other day. http://auntiemeesh.livejournal.com/165886.html#cutid1

Really, I hope you get to see it. Even if you see it alone, it'll be worth it -- and hey, try and have lunch with rsf. It would be great.

I have that on my to read list (see, I did see it), and I'll get to it as soon as I can. Getting out of the house was nice, but now I'm all... behind.

I'm all behind too and I've almost given up on ever getting caught up. *sigh* Take your time and don't worry about it if you don't get to it. :)
