[livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl, Mr. P and I went out cross-country skiing today. We inexplicably failed to take the camera, so there are no pretty pictures to follow, but it was a gorgeous day. We went midmorning and the temps were above 40 with bright blue skies.

I'm not exactly a pro at it yet, and I wobbled a lot, but I didn't fall down, so I count it as a good day. *grins*

So how was the skiing? Where did you go? Did you like it?
=D

We went up to Milan somewhere - the loop road? There were a lot of other ski tracks there (Mr. P went there yesterday and there was someone else there ahead of us) but the snow was all broken up and sometimes it was a little difficult because one of my poles would sink into a deep footprint, or my skis would break off an edge of slightly melted ice under the snow, or I'd get caught in tracks that were going in different directions, but all in all, I really liked it. It was a *lot* less tiring than snowshoeing.

Sounds wonderful. Way more pleasant than spending 4 hours in the office like me! Of course, I would have had a hard time skiing today, as it was in the 40's and there hasn't been snow since before Christmas!

Yeah, that lack of snow would make skiing harder. It was in the 40s here too, but we have enough snow on the ground that the trail still had a lot of snow on it.

So I hear you're hoping to take Mom on to the Tolkien Moot. Is she excited about that?

She sounded excited when I talked to her about it. Not so much excited about Tolkien, but very excited about Scotland. Of course, worried about affording it, but she's going if I have to kidnap her to the airport! :)

Great! You'll be a pro at this in no time! Did the dogs get to go with you, or did they have to stay at home and keep the cats company?

Shadow came along. She had a fantastic time romping through the woods, but Sunny stayed at home and slept on the bed. :)

Congrats! During the learning phase of these things, I always tell myself that I wouldn't appreciate the accomplishment if it was too easy.

That's right. If it's too easy, then it's just boring. :)

Excellent! Keep at it and you'll be an ace in no time. The AMC's "Winter Trails Map" is an excellent resource for a large number of ski routes on rights-of-way, forest roads, old railroad grades, etc up in the Whites.
