We've had two weeks of mostly springlike weather (there was a bit of snow last week but it didn't last long) and I'm beginning to feel like I'm coming out of my winter hibernation at last. I've been able to spend a couple of hours a day out in the direct sunlight and it's done wonders for my mood. (seasonal affective disorder, me? what are you talking about?)

I'm once again finding the kids at work charming instead of annoying and tiresome, which is a very nice thing. I like liking the kids, it makes things a lot more fun. Today, the practicum student dyed Easter eggs with the kids, first showing them how to blow the yolks out. This is something that I've never done and never would have thought to do with the kids (blowing the yolks out, not dying the eggs) but it went really well. Not all of the kids were willing to put their mouths on the eggs, and of the ones who tried only a few were really able to do it, but the teacher was smart and had brought a goodly number of prepared eggs along. We didn't call them Easter eggs, of course, as we don't really celebrate any holidays at school, but none of the kids were fooled. :D

I'm glad to hear spring shows up at least somewhere.

Where I used to live, by this time there would be daffodils and crocuses and snowdrops and buds on trees. Here everything is still very dead, but it's at least warm and sunny in the afternoons (still well below freezing overnight).

*wishing you warm springlike days*

Lovely spring-like icon, too. Glad you're having such wonderful weather, and fun with the kids. (And hope you got rid of the lice before they...took root? whatever the expression is.) People who do those fancy things with egg dying are so cool. I just read recently some tips (at www.homemadesimple.com) for things like making dots/wavy lines by putting paint on bubble wrap and rolling your eggs over it. That's more the speed of my talent.

I do best with the eggs when I just go for a solid color. If I try to get fancy, it ends up kinda sad looking. Some of the kids drew on their eggs with a white crayon before dipping them, though, and that turns out pretty cool. The bubble wrap thing sounds like a pretty neat effect. I may have to try that one out myself. :)

Hey! I'm glad it's spring in NH and that the nits and ringworms haven't made you thoroughly disgusted with the whole child care field. And by the way, CONGRATULATIONS on being one of the wonderful NHCTC child care staff nominated for staff of the year! (or whatever the official thing is - [profile] lyda_pearl spilled the beans about it to me.)

Yes, well, I think I just got lumped in with all the rest. The boss didn't want to just single out the one or two people she felt really deserved it and so just nominated all of us. Nice of her, but in my current mood I find it annoying and phony. I've always hated false compliments and this feels like on.
