Plans are coming together

I'm still waiting on confirmation of a few not-so-minor details like where I'm going to stay, but it looks like I'll be heading back to Pgh in about two and a half weeks. I'll tell my boss that my last day at the preschool will be Friday, May 12. I can get a pretty cheap flight out of Boston on the 14, so lyda_pearl and I will drive down on Saturday, spend the day doing Bostony things and then she'll take me to the airport on Sunday and I'll be on my way.

Much as I'm looking forward to going home, it will be hard to say goodbye to my sister. She has been amazingly supportive in any number of ways this past year and I think I would probably have gone insane without her.

Okay, now I'm going to go off and write *gasp* hobbit-fic. I really have to get to get Luster finished before I lose all interest in it (I've been a bad fic!mom and have pretty much abandoned my poor little baby fic). Finding any level of concentration is going to be difficult because they started a way cool 'sex, drugs and rock & roll' challenge at sga_flashfic and I want to go read everything, Right Now. But Pippin has been lingering in the hurt part of h/c for months now and really, we need to get that lad some comfort. *pets Pippin and promises to make him all better*

Edit: Poor Pippin is still sadly lingering (I am working on him though, promise), but the travel plans have been cemented! I made my purchase and I'm all set to go. Yay! Okay, now that old 'fear of flying' thing kicks in; my chest already feels tight. Yippee.

Lyda Pearl and I discussed this before I moved ahead with this plan. Because any apartment I could get from here, without actually seeing, would be pretty dicey, we thought it would be better for me to fly home as soon as the semester was over. That way I would have a couple of weeks to find an apartment (the hope is to find one for June 1st). Then, once I have a place and I'm ready to move in, she'll drive my stuff and the cats down.

It's far from ideal. It's a really long drive to have to make, especially by herself, but I'm not sure what else to do. I could get most things shipped, I suppose, although I'd have to do it in shifts and spurts as I had money, but I can't mail the cats and I don't think LP would appreciate me leaving them here. Not to mention I would hate to lose them (although they will make the apartment hunting just that little bit harder).

All in all, it's a shitty plan, but it's better than not having a plan. :(

Part of me is disappointed that I didn't manage to get the whole Denver thing together, but I don't think I'm up for a second total uproot and start-over right now, so heading back to familiar territory makes me happy. Hopefully the job and apartment will fall into place. *grins nervously*

Great! Things are moving forward. I understand the onset of twinges of flight fear as soon as you book a plane ticket - the same thing happens to me. But it will be really good to get home - although it will be sad to have to home so far away from lyda. I'm a little disappointed too, because I thought I might get to see you if you and Peg came to NYC while I am there. But you will be back in Pgh by then. Well, you will have to stop by Hillman Library and say hi to Tom for me, and stop by the former Forbes Quad and say hi to that ole Dr. J for me. *feels nostalgic*

My kitties are going to stay here and guard my stuff until I find an apartment. My sister is planning to drive down with them then. I'll miss them, but one move will be hard enough on them, Tookie does not like meeting new cats, and I wouldn't even want to ask eve11 to put them up (not to mention the fact that they are both old and I'm not sure how well they would hold up to flying).

Tookie is a sweet thing, when she's not driving me crazy (she was sitting on the mouse a little while ago and then getting very offended when I put my hand under her butt in order to use the mouse, lol. The other cat's name is Thor and he's a sweetie too, most of the time (except when he's trying to kill Tookie).

Thanks! Plans do seem to be coming together just at the moment, but considering it's been about two years getting to this point, I don't if quick is the operative word, lol. I'm going to have to move quickly in the next few weeks though, in order to find a job and an apartment by June 1st.

Also, if you'd like I can pick up some classified sections from the papers this weekend (or next) and send them up to you before you come down -- that way you might be able to get the ball rolling on any jobs that might do phone interviews or something, and then tell them you'll be available for face-to-face in the coming weeks. Gimme the word and I'll gather some stuff. I'd also check Monster -- eg, I found something (albeit child care, but seems more administrative) here

That would be very helpful. I've also been keeping an eye on Craigslist, as they have a lot of job and housing opportunities listed there.
