How perfect is this icon? *snicker*

In other news, I think I've found an apartment. It's wee teeny tiny, labeled an efficiency even though it could technically be called a one-bedroom. As I said, it's very small, probably square footage wise not much bigger than your average living room, all together, but it's broken up into actual, separate rooms, so it's good. Plus, it's got hardwood floors (always a plus) and all utilities are included in the rent, so there's nothing to complain about, really.

I put a security deposit on it, and as long as my credit check clears I should be okay. *crosses fingers* Now I just need to get a job and I'll be all set.

It's not bad. The building is kind of grim looking, but I think the apartment itself should be good.

Yay! Apartment hunting can be miserable, so I'm very happy you found a place!

Oooh, I miss having hardwood floors. This apartment has carpets :P

I love the hardwood floors and the place is so small that a couple of little throw rugs will be all I need to make sure it stays cozy in the winter.

Go you! Those teeny-tinies can really be pretty neat and, hey, you can't beat one where utilities are included in the rent. Good luck with the job hunting! I'm so glad you're getting things together in your new city. It's nice to see things go as planned for others (gives me hope for myself, tee hee!). And WHO is that in the icon?

The guy in the icon is David Franklin, who plays Braca on Farscape. The story behind the icon is that a couple of years ago there were a bunch of Farscape actors at the Pittsburgh comicon, including David. [livejournal.com profile] eve11 and I had our first model drd - HNM (the Hunchback of Notre Moya) - there and David took it out for a test drive. Unfortunately, he triggered some sort of demonstration mode on the remote control and poor HNM almost self-destructed, driving around in circles and ramming into the furniture. We made merciless fun of David after that. :)

LOL! What a great story! I didn't even recognize the guy. *sigh* I miss Farscape. Every once in a while I'll be channel surfing on a Saturday afternoon and the Chicago cable station runs it. Always a nice treat.

The great thing about David Franklin is that he doesn't look the least little bit like Braca. It's so weird! Braca almost never smiles, he looks really severe and clean-cut all the time. David, on the other hand, always has a big grin and the times I've met him, he's a bit scruffy and tousled looking. Very yummy, in other words, lol.

David has the naughtiest, quickest grin I've ever seen, and the devilish wit to match. I love it when he has stubble. Scrufilicious!

Like Craig Parker, whom I met at D*C a couple of years ago. *sigh*

Wow, that was quick! :D

Love hardwood floors. So much warmer than other kinds, somehow, even without carpets.

Well, I'm waiting on the credit check, which could go either way - I'm not as good with bills as I could be, but I'm hoping I make it through okay because I really want to be done with that much, at least.

Great news!

I do that all the time, lol.

Now I just have to wait for the credit check to be done and I'm hoping that goes through okay.

yeah, the hardwood floors should be especially good because I have two cats that like to shed and sweeping is much easier than vacumning all that hair up. :)

Yay! That was fast. Hopefully the job hunt will be as quick and successful.

So what kind of housewarming gifts will you need/want?
=D

At the moment, the things that I will need the most are too big to be housewarming gifts, like a bed and a desk, lol. But I'm not really worried about that. I'll sleep on the floor until I get around to buying a mattress or a futon pad or something.

Nothing like being in your mid-thirties and having nothing to let you know that you've been on the wrong track for a while now. If nothing else, it will provide good motivation for me to study and work hard, get through school and find a decent job so that I can once again have good housing and *furniture*

:D

Yeah, a futon would be difficult to mail... :)

Look at it as starting over--some folks have to do it after horrible events in their lives, some choose to rid themselves of posessions. You're just starting a new chapter--with little baggage. Like a butterfly, spreading her wings after leaving the cocoon ;)

It's been my experience that it is hard to stay really furniture-less for long. Someone is always moving or getting something new and wanting to find a good home for their still reasonably good old stuff. This is how I got both my bed and my love seat. And LP thought my house looked very grown up in the way it's furnished! (I think it must have been the bookshelves that did it.)

Cool; good luck on the apartment! It is so nice to have one's own place, even if just for a little while.

As for your lack of "stuf" stuff: you are just a trend-setter. You've been practicing feng shui without even realizing it.

Date: 2006-05-17 10:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] auntiemeesh.livejournal.com
That's right! Although I don't know that feng shui advocates getting rid of *furniture* but it certainly simplifies life - and it's so much easier to move when you don't have big, bulky stuff to cart around. :)

The words "efficiency apartment" bring back images of Maripoe St. Horrors! Horrors! Make them go away! I trust you've found something much nicer than that. What neighborhood is it in?

I'm pretty sure this place is a lot better than that one. It's in Regent Square, a little closer to Wilkinsburg than I would ideally like, but I think that as long as I walk out to Forbes instead of going to the closer bus stop on Kelly, I'll be fine. And honestly, using the Kelly Ave bus stop should be fine in the day, and the walk to Forbes is probably about eight to ten minutes - not really a big deal for me.

I, too, had a few horror flashbacks to Maripoe St when I realized I was probably going to have to get a tiny little efficiency somewhere, but I have faith that this one is better.

The other place that I tried to look at yesterday was really dicey. It was also in Regent Sq. but even closer to Wilkinsburg and the building looked awful. Luckily for me, I was spared even the faint possibility of living there by the real estate lady never coming to show me the apartment. This gave me plenty of time to sit on the front step of the building and observe the neighborhood while concluding that the woman wasn't going to show. I would have been too big a scaredy-cat to live there even if the apartment was a hell of a lot better on the inside than I would expect it to be.

Sounds good. It should be pretty easy bus access to Oakland, and I'm glad that you won't have to deal with the whole roommate thing. Will Tookie and Thor be able to join you there? It sounds as if they are missing you quite a bit.

Yep, Tooks and Thor are welcome in the new place. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I didn't even have to pay an extra pet deposit. :)
