Drabble for slightlytookish

slightlytookish requested Pippin and Merry in Fangorn. This is more than a drabble but rather less than a ficlet. Just a little moment in time and rather silly.

"Are you sure we're going in the right direction?" Pippin asked plaintively after they'd been walking for nearly two hours. "We should have come to Quickbeam's house by now."

"Yes, I'm sure we're going in the right direction," Merry replied, affronted that Pippin would doubt his pathfinding skills. "You have to remember that Quickbeam walks a lot faster than us, Pip, so it only took him half an hour to reach that stream he's all blissed out by, but our legs are much shorter, so of course it will take longer for us to get back."

"Maybe we shouldn't have left him there," Pippin worried. "After all, he was pretty out of it."

"He'll be fine. He'll sleep for a while, have some happy dreams, and when he wakes up he'll find our note. No worries."

"If we ever find our way back to his house." Pippin smirked at Merry as the path they were on dwindled to nothing at the edge of a steep cliff that neither of them remembered seeing from their walk with the ent that morning.

"No, no. I know exactly where we are," Merry protested. "We've come a little too far to the north, but if we go left here, and follow this ravine along for a few minutes, we'll be right back on the main path. Trust me."

"Oh, of course. You're the map studier, after all. I'm sure you know exactly what you're doing." Pippin disentangled himself from the briar patch Merry had led them into and continued on, following his oblivious friend.

"Exactly." Merry smiled smugly and wondered where that blasted path had got to. It had been right in front of them just a moment ago. *sigh* Maybe he'd had a little more of that entdraught than he thought. Not that he would ever admit that to Pippin.

And while I'm at it, I'll throw up a link to this other thing I wrote today. The other day ansothehobbit was mentioning that she really wanted to see a crossover fic with Merry and Daniel Jackson from Stargate. Because it's easier to write bad!fic than drabbles, I wrote her a little something. It's fairly bizarre and random, but does involve both Meriadoc Brandybuck and the SG-1 team.

Destination: Somewhere Else
Edit: Well, I've gone back and unlocked that entry. Sometimes the brain doesn't work as well as it should.

Oh, just what I needed this morning, smug!Merry! Poor Pippin. Merry is so very male here, totally unwilling to admit that he is lost and needs directions. This should encourage Pippin to study a few maps himself! LOL. Thanks dear :)

Yes, a little better today, thanks. I'm sneezing less but coughing more, and my ear/throat hurt so much in the night that I hardly slept, but the pain has dulled now, and I'm hoping it'll stay that way :)

Uh-huh. Studied the maps well, did you, Merry? LOL: I thought this was just a human guy trait, rather than hobbits. (Heaven forbid there be someone around he could actually ask for directions, LOL.)

Poor Merry. He really did study the maps, it's just so easy to get turned around in the forest, and the sun was hitting him in the eyes, and Quickbeam took a couple of weird turns and that map was totally wrong and all the paths he wanted to turn on were one-way - the other way. It's not his fault they weren't where he thought they should be!
