Now I know

It appears that I didn't get the job I interviewed for last week. I called this morning because I needed to make a decision today about the other job offer. The woman handling this particular job is off today, but the woman that I spoke with was pretty sure the position had been filled.

I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, this means I can work at my old job where I know almost everyone and even still know most of the kids. I won't have a lot of responsibility - I'll just be a floater, filling in wherever a room is short-staffed or someone needs a hand.

On the other hand, I'm not going to get paid as much and there's no real guarantee that I'll get as many hours as I need every week.

All in all, I don't mind, except I think I was very well qualified for the other job and I'm wondering if they chose to give the position to a recent Pitt Child Development grad (it's the Pitt Child development center).

Oh that's a shame. Still, maybe something else will come up ^_^

Well, at this point I'm just going to go with the other job I've got on offer. I can't afford to be unemployed any longer. I may have to look for something else in the fall, but it would be lovely if I could just keep this job until I get through school. Don't really know how practical that will be, though.

Oh, that sucks. :( And at least they could've told you earlier, instead of stringing it out for a whole week.

It's their loss.

Yeah, it would have been nice if they could have called. Especially since at the interveriw it sounded like they planned to call even if just to say the position was filled. Oh well, I'll probably hear from them in a week or two, with that news, lol.

Bummer! Could the woman that you spoke with have made a mistake? When will the person who interviewed you be back?

I know it sucks, but at least you've got plan B. Hopefully something better will come along, but until then, you know everybody and it'll be very easy for you.

Hang in there...
=D

Well, the woman that I spoke with wasn't definite because the position I was inquiring about wasn't on her list. So who knows, but if the job hasn't been filled, it's almost certainly been offered to someone and the best I could hope for is taht the person hasn't accepted it yet, but I think it's more likely that it has been filled.

meh, that's too bad. I hate with a fiery passion employers who don't give you the callback either way... 'thanks for applying, now frell off' My long ago boss would never call back, so I started calling for him. 'I don't want to make them feel bad.' "No, you don't want to tell them why, and you don't want to take the time. If you respecet people, they won't feel so bad, and they will remember..."

I suppose it doesn't occur to them that it isn't so much a matter of making us feel bad as simply letting us know that we are free to take other (less enticing) offers.

Oh, bummer about that job. Don't you just hate it when they say they'll "be in touch" and then they don't? I'd been put on hold for over two weeks for one for which I'd interviewed three weeks ago today. Everything was very good, very positive, they kept me for over an hour, introduced me to everyone, showed me where "my" office would be, said they'd get back to me the next week for the second interview. Then finally two days ago I got in touch my recruiter who'd sent me to the interview only to find out that they'd promoted from within. Nice of them to let us know. Fine. I don't want to work for a company that treats people like that anyway. But it is a bummer, isn't it? Especially when you think it's something you've got?

Hope the right thing comes along for us both. Old jobs are okay as a stand-by, but, at least in my experience, old jobs (present one included) don't necessarily bode well for the future. Same old, same old, never get ahead. Blah, blah, blah.

Full moon this weekend. I'll try to bring about some positive change for us both. *hugs*

Sorry to hear about your long, fruitless wait as well. If they have no intention of calling, they should at least be honest and say 'if you don't hear from us in x number of days, assume the position is filled.' That way we wouldn't spend an unreasonable amount of time hanging in limbo.

I will think good thoughts for both of us in the job search arena.

*hugs*

Bummer. Sorry you didn't get the better paying job. At least it sounds like things will work out somewhat with your old job.

Well, I'm only guaranteed 25 hours a week with the possibility of up to 40 hrs as needed. Unfortunately, 25 hrs isn't actually enough to live on, so now I'm back to searching for either another part-time job, or a different full-time job. I know something will come up eventually, it's just tough waiting.

Sorry about that Meeesh. (I didn't notice this message before) Have fun at Carriage House and enjoy your summer of "leisure" while you look forward to fall.

There will be no summer of leisure, sadly. I'll probably end up working a zillion hours at two part time jobs, like I did last fall, and then burn myself out before I even start school. On the other hand, working a zillion hours now will be good training for when I have to go to school full-time, still work a zillion hours to pay the bills and then study for my classes as well. :(

The sucks, not knowing. If the other lady will be back soon I'd try to hold out just a bit. Give her a call, and if it did go to someone one else, could you ask for feedback? (in letter form obviously. don't want to put anyone on the spot.) Things like how did you come across in the interview? Is there anything she would recommend regarding your resume or interview skills? You know, just to get some idea if there was anything you could have done differently?

Thanks. I'm sure something else will come along eventually, I'll just have to keep looking. :)
