...but it works.

A loft bed, while providing tons of extra space in a bedroom, isn't entirely a comfortable or convenient thing for someone as restless at night as I am. I'm always getting up to get a drink of water or a tissue, or reading in bed, or wanting to change the setting on the fan or something.

So I rigged up a basket (made out of an empty plastic Tidy Cat litter box) that's tied to the metal frame of the bed. In it I can keep a bottle of water, a book, my headlamp (I don't have a flashlight or booklight, but it works just as well), the remote for my fan and a box of tissues. Up until now, all of these things were in the bed with me - cramping an already tiny space. Now I just need to convince Thor that he doesn't have bed privileges and I'll actually have enough room in the bed for me. *grins*

Macgyverism to the rescue! Did you use Duct tape? Ha! It doesn't have to be pretty, just as long as it works.

I don't even have any duct tape. But I do have a length of piping cord left over from my Chiana hat. So that is now firmly tying the basket to the bed.

I was thinking about covering the box with some of my left-over fabric, but was feeling too lazy (plus I don't have any way to fasten the fabric to the box) so for the moment it's just a plain white boring box (at least I was able to remove the Tidy Cat picture and words).

Good idea...you don't want the cats to mistake it for their box!

Velcro, my dear woman, velcro. Poor Thor, being tossed out of bed! Love your CE icon, btw. Last week's finale had me in TEARS.

I missed the final two episodes of the season, but I'm hoping to download them now that I'm online again. :)

OMG, they were the BEST! He really grew on me as the season went on. I sort of came in halfway through the season. Gonna have to buy those DVDs.

Hey I have a loft bed as well. I use the top of my wardrobe for keeping my stuff on though because I can reach it easily from the bed (It being so close that it could class as a bedside table, albeit an oversized one) ^_^

My not-wardrobe would be about the right height, but it's just not located in the right place.

Thor can get up there now? And hey, is your DSL actually working now too?

Thor was getting up pretty easily for a while but last night he fell twice while trying to climb the pile of boxes I arranged as steps up. So I moved the boxes and he managed to get up anyway via the windowsill. But he couldn't figure out how to get down this morning, lol. He stood at the top of the ladder and looked pathetic until I climbed up and carried him down.

My dsl is sort of working. It's gone off-line twice today but it only stays off for fifteen min to half an hour, so that's not so bad.

Is Tookie okay with not being on the bed?

Well, she's pretty much stopped yowling during the night, so I guess she's reconciled herself. Having said that, she'll probably make a racket all night long tonight, lol.

LOL! Oh, poor Thor! Luna taught herself how to climb up the ladder of the lads futon bunk beds; then she got big enough to sit on the dresser and jump to the top, but she couldn't figure how to get down. The Mommy Elevator had to come and let her hop on the old shoulder to get down. Silly cats!

Ooops! That was Luna's Mom, in case you hadn't guessed. :-)

Here I was thinking that you were going to say that you were getting lots of extra exercise going up and down the ladder to the bed, and I was going to say that you could cross-post this message to Fit_for_Life! But the bed basket is a worthy innovation. Sounds like you've got a bit of Dad's creativity and handiness in you - although in that case you would perhaps have had to make the basket out of plywood and paint it a cheery tomato - no 84 Lumber - red! (P.S., if all this is making you scratch your head - go to WDTM and read #7's memories in Dad's Party Volume 2.)

Sorry I didn't get any memories written down for you today. Let me know if it's too late to send you anything.

It is too late for me to add them to the book officially, but if you send me some as an e-mail message before noon on Friday, I will print it out and just place it inside the front cover. I'm sure Dad would be glad to see them!

That's very ingenious! Is the ladder fixed in place or are you able to lower or raise it?
