My poor little Tookie Cat. She got all confused this morning. I usually keep the cats' food and water dishes in the kitchen, but I needed to mop this morning so I moved the bowls into the living room (about three feet away). Thor went right over to them without a thought and happily started eating his breakfast. Tookie, on the other hand, stood in the kitchen at the usual spot, staring at it in dismay, waiting for the bowls to reappear. Then she turned, looked at the bowls in the living room (and Thor eating there), turned around and went back to her usual spot. She was really upset by this seemingly small change in the routine. When she finally did go over to the bowls, she simply stood by Thor and watched him eat out of one and needed me to point her towards the other. Poor thing. The floor is dry now, so I should probably return the bowls to their rightful place. Maybe that will help her feel better.

I was supposed to go away this weekend but one of the factors that decided me against the trip was that the poor kitties might freak out a little too much, being abandoned so soon after moving into a new home. Tookie in particular is no longer terribly flexible in her routines and desires. Food bowls should be here and bed should be there and Meesh should be in sight at all times, lol.

I think Tookie and Gelsomina must in some way be related. Gelsomina also becomes quite distressed over small changes to her feeding situation - including those that Minette puts into effect. For example, it's become pretty common for Gelsomina to sit and cry if Minette is sitting on the washing machine when Gel wants to jump up there to eat. Gelsomina is perfectly capable of jumping over Minette to get to the food, but she prefers for me to pick her up and place her in front of the bowl. It's even better if I completely displace Minette in the process. Of course, Minette does steal Gel's food any chance she gets, so Gelsomina's concern is not entirely misplaced. I just think she could be a bit more proactive in managing the situation!

These silly kitties, they get so inflexible. I'm worried about how it's going to be when I start school and am gone from dawn to well past dusk every day. Although they seem pretty content to sleep all day, so maybe they'll be fine with it as long as I'm home in the evenings.

I think so. My sense is that cats only get stressed if we aren't home when they want to disturb our night time sleep - not if we aren't home to disturb their day time sleep!
